4:30pm: Anne and Mark

Anne & Mark’s Art Party is an occasional and irrational San Jose Arts Festival. It’s next appearance will be Saturday, September 24 through Saturday, October 1, 2016.

Some say it’s an “art exhibition” others say it’s a “happening”. The event has been described as, “Mad Max meets Moulin Rouge; freak show meets Fellini.” and “Burning Man in a Tux.”  This very unusual eight-day long arts festival will bring together over 300 local and international visual artists at Santa Clara County Fairgrounds to create 34,000 square feet of indoor exhibition space, virtually museum or gallery quality, curated and well-lit with 12-foot high walls. Add to that the surrounding outdoor space which includes a Sculpture Garden, Music Stages, Jazz Club, a Spoken Word Lounge, Live Painting, Performance Art, Dance, Fire, Fashion and Film, with Art Cars and Gourmet Food Trucks. Most of the art is for sale, with price points from $50 to $80,000.

Anne and Mark’s Art Party was first hosted in 2007 as a private event, showcasing the artistic work of friends, family and local performers. It was held in Anne Sconberg and Mark Henderson’s downtown San Jose home, which they converted into a 5,000 square foot gallery for one evening with 20 artists and 250 guests. Over the years, it grew from one house to two, then to a warehouse, and in 2014 it opened to the public for the first time and became a week-long event at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.

Anne & Mark’s Art Party is an artist-driven, volunteer-led event with over 300 artists and performers contributing their time and talents. Over 3,000 guests were in attendance during the first open-to-the-public event in 2014 and over 5,000 are expected to attend this September. Art Party gives artists at all career levels an opportunity to show and sell their art, to network and to interact with other artists, critics, and buyers from the Bay Area and beyond. It encourages guests to become participants, fosters conversation, connection and creation that can transform attendees and artists alike, highlighting existing artistic vibrancy, and strengthening pride of place.
