Trident

Going out to eat in the San Francisco Bay area provides many pleasurable experiences.

One of the oldies but goodies harking back to the sixties is the Trident in Sausalito. It had been many years since I had been there, so it felt like an old friend when I entered the familiar restaurant with some of the greatest views around.

And the food was as good as I remember with an updated contemporary menu. I had a kale and quinoa salad with grilled quail, which also had grapes, slivered almonds, feta cheese, lemon zest and a white balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It was refreshingly good and nutritious. A glass of Mumm champagne was just perfect for toasting my birthday, but what happened mid-meal took our breath away. There, right out the window looking East, was a full moon coming up over Angel Island, playing peek-a-boo with the clouds and casting a path of white light illuminating the bay.

Just when I thought this place was magic enough, our waitress brought over a chocolate lava cake with a candle in it. It was an evening of surprises with wonderful food, stunning scenery, exquisite company and new memories that will bring me back.

There can’t be anything more TRIED and TRUE than the Trident in Sausalito.

9:35a.m.: Ms. Judi Gavello, Tour Guide, Local Tastes of the City Tours Announces Romantic Valentine’s Tours for February

San Francisco is one of the most romantic places in the world. Local Tastes of the City Tours will be celebrating the romance in the air with special tours for the month of February.

Morning and afternoon tours start in romantic North Beach, San Francisco’s version of Little Italy. In every part of the Valentine’s experience, participants not only try the food, but frequently see how it’s made and learn how to create some culinary romance even after Valentine’s Day is past. Tastes include coffee, chocolate, bread and pastries, pasta, olive oil and pizza.

Evening tours stroll through the back streets of Chinatown and North Beach by twilight, including tasting dim sum from one of the oldest bakeries in Chinatown. Tours delve into Chinese mysticism and culture as they explore local sculpture and architecture.

Tea is to Chinatown as pizza is to North Beach and participants sample both as they explore the heart of the beat generation.

Tour groups are small to ensure an unforgettable experience.
