Thursday August 27, 2015 - After her earth-moving presentation about Beyond Zero in Tokyo Japan, where she is attending the World Assembly for Women (WAW), President Uhuru Kenyatta’s wife, Margret, has received recognition that may see her initiate her project across Africa.

A top UN official told African leaders to emulate her and replicate her Beyond Zero maternal health delivery model across the African continent.

Speaking at Westin Hotel, Japan, where she met First Lady Margret Kenyatta, Prof. Mieko Ikegame said the problem of maternal and child health in Kenya is not unique to the country, therefore the successes of the Beyond Zero initiative should be rolled across Africa.

She noted that mothers and children in other countries with similar problems were also suffering but said there is hope if they emulate Kenya’s Beyond Zero initiative.

She asked the world to support such good initiatives like Beyond Zero to improve maternal health as well as reduce and eliminate maternal deaths.

Beyond Zero campaign is the brainchild of First Lady Margaret Kenyatta whose aim is to prevent mothers from dying while giving birth.
