We have decided to share our wealth of knowledge about traveling to the various airports in London and give you some of the best advice when it comes to selecting the top routes that will get you there in time for your flight.

London is the number one tourist destinations within the United Kingdom and with it comes some of the worlds busiest airports heaving with passengers all making their way to various destinations. There are nine airports in total within the city itself and depending on the one you want to reach; you might have quite a journey on your hands. If you are not familiar with the area, it can often make the idea of reaching your destination on time even more daunting. This is why we have compiled a helpful guide for travelers that will ensure you get to your flight effortlessly so you can start your trip with as little worry and stress as possible.

The five biggest airports in London are:

Gatwick

Stansted

Heathrow

Luton

London City

Certain locations are easier to get to by train and some are easier by taxi. Taxis can be booked at any time of day from Monday through to Sunday but be wary as fares rise considerably after midnight and on bank holidays. If you live far away from the airport you are traveling to however, there will be cheaper ways to reach it. Alternative, you can use an airport transfer company such as Sky Airport Transfer for a much cheaper and convenient deal.

London Underground

Even if you are not a Londoner, you would probably recognize the iconic red circle crossed by a horizontal blue bar logo that represents the underground. With some of the fastest train services offered to various terminals in London, the underground is a cost-effective way to reach a number of airports. With several connection points, you can easily jump on and off using your Oyster Card which enables you to gain discounts when traveling by tube. You can also book online in advance to save you both time and money.  The only disadvantage when using the tube is that due to its lack of space and wheelchair access, it is often a hassle for certain travelers needing such services. It also has several escalators and distances to walk from various connections. Peak hours on the Underground can be very chaotic and make the spaces on trains very tight and crammed.

Coaches

There are reliable and regular coach services from within London that will take you to a number of airports. Coaches are a relaxing and affordable way to travel and can be booked in advance so you can find the best deal. If you are traveling from London Victoria especially, coach is a very popular choice as they arrive regularly from this point and connect to various communities in this area as well.

Driving

Hoping to drive yourself to the airport? It is a good idea to plan your journey at a time outside of rush hour where traffic queues, especially to airports, may be heavy and consume a lot of time.  In which case it would be wise to leave early, allowing plenty of time for the journey. If you are leaving from Central London, due to the congested streets and motorways it is good to leave well in advance of your flight departure time. Crawling at a slow pace is the last thing you want when you need to catch a flight. Motorways is a safe bet but still watch traffic cams and listen to local radio stations to keep watch on congested areas you may be able to avoid if time is tight.

You will discover that the London airports have good parking systems and plenty of space so you can leave your vehicle somewhere safe. Car parks are equipped with CCTV cameras which will help protect your vehicle if it is being left there for quite a while. If you are overloaded with bags and luggage you may want to book a meet and greet. This way the assistants will come and help you with your bags as you both make your way to the shuttle bus.

If you choose to stay close to your airport to save time before you depart, it is a great idea to make the most of your time in London. So why not explore the city and relax before your trip, seeing some of London’s main attractions. You can discover several hotels near airports that will cater to a range of budgets. When you arrive at your hotel you can be sure that the friendly staff will be knowledgeable about the area you are staying in and also regarding any questions you have about the airport.
