The distribution sites are only for residents affected by the advisory. Residents should bring their own sanitized and portable containers.
Bottled water will also be delivered to schools, community centers, senior centers and by home delivery to residents in need on a priority basis.
Anyone who is unable to get to a water distribution site should contact the 311 Response Center.
Bottled water donations are being accepted at the city’s Fire Department Warehouse at 2945 Railroad Street, Pittsburgh PA 15201.
Uber is offering free rides to help residents reach a water distribution center.
According to a press release, the ride-sharing company is pledging $20,000 in free rides to and from the water distribution locations across Pittsburgh.
“We want to ensure that transportation is not a barrier for Pittsburghers in need of safe, clean water,” said Jennifer Krusius, General Manager for Uber Pittsburgh. “Uber stands ready to help during this difficult time however we can.”
In order to take advantage of the service, follow thee steps:
Open your Uber app in Pittsburgh
Enter one of the distribution centers as your destination
Request your Uber and ride to the distribution center
Your trip will automatically be free up to $10
According to the statement, the first $10,000 will fund a free rides program available to all Uber riders in Pittsburgh, while the remaining $10,000 will go toward free rides for underserved communities, as identified by city officials.
The Pittsburgh Public Schools District closed 22 schools and two early childhood centers today. However, they will reopen on Thursday.
Restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals and businesses are also being asked to comply with the advisory and provide bottled water.
Bob Weimar, PWSA’s interim director of construction and engineering, gave the “KDKA Morning News” an update early Wednesday morning.
“At this point, we have terminated the operation at the offending plant, which is the microfiltration plant at the Highland One Reservoir. We have been meeting all of the standards, it’s just the state has indicated some of our readings were showing irregularities and they wanted us to provide this boil water order and an abundance of caution,” says Weimar.
Weimar adds they will be working with the state until the issue is resolved.
