An emergency levy was passed to increase the amount of student enrollment allowed in the Kuna School District for the 2016-2017 school year.

The Kuna School District Board of Trustees unanimously voted in favor of a 72-student increase already this year. School officials say the growth primarily affects the middle school and high school.

KBOI-2-TV reports, Taxes are still predicted to drop 20 percent per household in the 2016-2017 school year. The school district says even with the levy, a homeowner of a $200,000 house paid $681.61 in 2016 taxes and will only pay about $552.10 in 2017.

An emergency levy does not require voter approval per the Idaho Statute. A school board can approve an emergency levy at the start of a school year, if the district’s enrollment meets “growth thresholds” outlined in the Idaho Statute 33-805.
