Hello everyone,

With only days to go until the closure of the #PetsInPortraits competition we thought it would be a good idea to have a sneak peak at the book behind the competition!

The book is filled with over 80 photos of portraits that feature not just our favourite felines but also other animals. :) For each of the featured artworks the book contains a wealth of information about the famous person and their relationship to their pet. Not just do you find out historical info but some not so well known fun facts! Additionally info on the photographer / artist behind the photo / portrait can be found for each of them.

Below are just some of the examples of feline presence in what strikes us a fantastic collection of famous pet history (Who wouldn’t love cute animals and their human companions. ;) )

If you are a pet lover or are looking for the purrfect present for a pet lover this is certainly a must buy! Filled with adorable and majestic scenes and a wealth of information it will be an excellent choice for those that like to look at photos but also those who like to find out more about the details behind them!

The book is available directly from the National Portrait Gallery for £10 or £9 if you are a member. :)

Competition:
It is not too late to enter the competition (closes 8th of April) to win of £100 from the National Portrait Gallery Shop and £200 from the pet lifestyle emporium PetsPyjamas. Please see the guidelines and how to enter below:

We’ve included some examples of portraits from the book that we’d love to see recreated twenty first century style. But we’d also love to see your take on Pets in Portraits. Are we a nation obsessed with pampered pets? Or do you work with a pet? Or have a pet who works for you? We’d like to see a slice of modern society’s pets through your own representations too.

The National Portrait Gallery will be shortlisting their top Pets in Portraits photographs. The shortlisted entrants will be invited to the Gallery to see their pictures displayed on the night at the launch party. The winner will be unveiled on the night and gifted vouchers for themselves (and their pet) of £100 from the National Portrait Gallery Shop and £200 from the pet lifestyle emporium PetsPyjamas.

Join in by posting a picture of you and your pet, tag @NPGLondon on Twitter or @nationalportraitgallery on Instagram and add the hashtag #PetsInPortraits.

Entries will be accepted through Twitter, Instagram or posted on blogs. Entries close on 8 April. The winner will be unveiled on 16 April. By entering the competition NPG reserves the right to use the images to promote the competition and book, and to reprint the images.

Good luck everyone and don’t forget to share your entries with us as well! :D

Thanks,

Marc
