Grammy Award-Winning Musician to Present Classes at Joy of Music School.
Percussionist for the @ZacBrownBand to Work With Teachers and Youths. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — February 26, 2014 —The Joy of Music School, a nonprofit organization providing free music lessons and instruments to financially disadvantaged youth, announces two special classes, given by Grammy-winning percussionist, Daniel de los Reyes, of the Zac Brown Band, on Thursday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 6 at 5:00 p.m. at the school’s building in Knoxville.
Mr. Reyes, who has performed and recorded with such music powerhouses as Don Henley, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sting, Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Yanni, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin, among many others, is currently touring with the Zac Brown Band. He will present these special sessions in Knoxville for Joy of Music School teachers and students on such topics as the music business, music education, and percussion pedagogy. “I am honored and very motivated to share some of what the music world has given me with the fine volunteer teachers and deserving students at the Joy of Music School,” said Reyes of his upcoming visit from his home city of Fayetteville, GA.
Although he has played a wide range of musical styles through out his musical history, Mr. Reyes’ roots are in Cuban music, learning from his prolific father Walfredo Reyes, Sr. A world-renowned percussionist, drum set player, and educator in the fields of session recording, live performance, and clinics. Daniels grandfather, Walfredo de los Reyes II, was the trumpet player, singer and one of the founding members of the Cuban orchestra, Casino de la Playa. Walfredo Reyes Jr. (one of his brother) was drummer for Santana, Steve Winwood and percussionist for CHICAGO to name a few.
“We are thrilled to welcome this supremely talented musician to our facility and even more delighted that he has such a zeal for working with our teachers and students,” says Joy of Music School Executive Director, Francis Graffeo. “This is a tremendous opportunity for everyone involved.” Mr. Reyes plans to present two sessions at the School. The first, with the instructors, is to cover his real world music experience, while the second event, set for the following week is to be a percussion class for Joy of Music School students and their families.
These education events with percussionist Daniel de los Reyes are open to the public. But admission is limited, as space must first be made available to Joy of Music School students, families and teachers. If you plan to attend, please call in advance. MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND EITHER EVENT. Please contact Francis Graffeo to make arrangements. 865-525-6806, graffeo@joyofmusicschool.org<mailto:graffeo@joyofmusicschool.org>
