Renee (left) and Imogen (right) in new season RUBY and Liam. All Photos/James K Lowe.
So this post was supposed to go up yesterday, but I overestimated how much time I’d have in Melbourne to 1. find free wifi, and 2. find time to use the free wifi to get a blog post up, so imagine it’s Wednesday and here’s another post of some new season things I like on a couple of girls I like (Renee – Clyne and Imogen – Nova) shot by my favourite photographer brother James – this time I’ve picked a couple of pieces from RUBY and Liam.
It doesn’t quite feel like Winter yet, but I’m already in the coat zone. The black and white tweedy ‘Dreamer’ coat on Imogen (above) is one of my favourite pieces from the RUBY collection. For someone who had never really owned a coat up until 3 years ago, I have really turned a corner. I already have three new coats for this season and this might be the fourth. They just have this magic way of making you look like you’re ‘dressed up’ even if you’re not. Renee is wearing another awesome piece from RUBY – the Moonrise jumper. It’s super soft and cropped, but not super short or anything. It’s a really, really great length.
The Liam ‘Suspend’ playsuit above also comes in a full length dress version which is just as cool, but not as practical… I actually wore this playsuit the other day and it’s just like a top and shorts but it’s connected inside, if that makes sense. I felt very chic.
I get asked a lot where you can buy tees from and one of the options for a lightweight, nice basic is Liam. I feel like the Scoop tee is a grown up’s tee – the kind you can wear casually with tailored pants or denim (or anything really), but the linen, relaxed fit, longer sleeve combo make it a lot less scruffy than your average t-shirt. I paired it above with the tweedy-ish RUBY Theo mini.
I’ve been thinking about white shorts a lot lately. Glassons brought out that white denim pair, Karen Walker’s doing a pair for SS14-15, Lonely Hearts have done a pair of loose white shorts as part of their Lonely Lounge range. I’m yet to own a pair due to mostly a lack of belief that I would be able to keep them clean. This doesn’t mean I think they’re a great idea though. This Liam pair has a black panel up the sides (they’re appropriately named the ‘Contrast Runners’) – very sport luxe if that’s your thing. Imogen is wearing them with the RUBY Revolution sweater.
RUBY is doing a cute black and sparkly silver Dreamers pyjama set – the top of which you can see on Renee (the bottom half is boxers). She’s wearing it under this sheer long-sleeve Liam Blurred sweater which I feel is perfect for wearing if you’ve got some kind of fancy bra that you want people to know you own. (Just being honest.)
Okay so this Elipse top is really awesome, it’s Liam, and it’s basically a silk tee with a sheer panel at the top and sheer sleeves. It feels fantastic. (I would know, I touched it.) The shorts are also Liam and they’re the Twin short. I actually own the shorts. It’s not really visible in the picture, but the back panels of the shorts are actually made of this thicker, ‘easier-wearing’ (my own words) fabric that doesn’t wrinkle, and the front pleated panels are silk. What I’m trying to say is, they’re really good to sit in because you don’t get weird butt creases in them. Plus, pockets.
I wore the above Liam Mercury tunic one time and about a thousand people told me how good it was so, just saying.
The RUBY Horizon long-sleeve tee also comes in a short-sleeve version but this one is better in my opinion. It’s got that melange look about it and I know you can’t touch it but imagine it’s super soft because it is.
How good is this last photo?!?!
I don’t know how to end this post because it’s actually quite difficult to try to sum everything up after a lot of ranting and waffling on about pieces of clothing I wish I had, especially after a few days of small amounts of sleep, so I’ll just give you what you need to know in bullet points:
All the above pieces are either available online here or in RUBY stores nationwide.
If specific items are not available now (if they’re linked, they’re in store. If not, they’re coming), they’ll be available between now and May.
Sheer black is very good.
As per usual, great shots from James – too many for this blog post, so check the rest here.
Finally, I tried to keep the clothing in this post quite monochromatic to go with the ‘trends I’ve seen on the street’ street-style post I did for the NZ Herald. I don’t know if you noticed. I mean, I didn’t expect you to but if you did you are very observant. Anyway, I feel like you probably didn’t so I thought I should point it out.
THE END.
