A Srinagar-based ‘job placement consultancy’ has allegedly duped six post graduate students across the Valley, a report said on Friday.

Al Noor India Education and Placement, that runs its office in Munawarabad in Dalgate here, had in March, this year , promised teaching jobs in Omam, and took lakhs of money, one of the six students said.

Among the students are Mudasir Sadiq Mir from Lolab Kupwor, Tasaduq Khalil from Lar, Ganderbal, Lailaul Qadr from Bandepur, Nuzhat Qadir from Razay Kadal and Sania from Batemaluen in Srinagar.

The students said that Sania was paid all the money back after “she told the consultancy that she would lodge a complaint with police and highlight it in the media.”

All these duped candidates have Masters in English and Linguistics from the University of Kashmir.

The students said that the placement consultancy, which Qadfeen Choudhary claimed to own, had advertised teaching jobs for Oman.

“We applied for the jobs through the Al Noor India Placement Consultancy. Our interviews were conducted by two delegates, whom Qadfeen claimed were from Oman. But actually they looked South Indian. After the interview some of us were called by phone and some by emails that we have been selected for the jobs,” the candidates said.

“Following it, Qadfeen Choudhary asked us to deposit money in his account to be spent for their visas to Oman,” they said.

Mudassir and Tasaduq said they both paid Rs 2.40 lak. Rs1.20 lakh each. Lailatul Qadr said she paid Rs 75,000; Nuzhat, whose father is a mason, said she paid Rs 72,000 through checques to him.

Among these Tasaquq, Lailtul Qadr are orphans, and have raised loans to pay to Qadfeen.

“Qadfeen assured us that they will soon get visas to Oman but till now neither we have got our visas not money. The so-called consultancy cheated with us and ruined our careers,” the students said.

The students said that Qadfeen gave us “fraud” cheques which “bounced” after they went to the bank. “His account had only Rs 125 in it when I went to bank to withdraw the cheque,” Mudassir said.

The students said they did not got to police to complaint “because we thought we will get our money back amicably. But today, we thought to highlight it to save other educated students from being duped.”

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir Range, Ghulam Hassan Bhat said they will take action against the people who have duped the students.

“It is a case of cheating. We will take action against the consultancy and the person who has cheated with the educated students after they file a complaint with police,” he said.

Qadfeen claimed the candidates have “deposited the money with the consultancy as security which is all refundable (refund is mentioned in their receipts). Out of this amount, I have refunded to some of them. And now only four are remaining, out of which two have been paid 50 % of the amount. I will pay the remaining amount to the candidates within a week,” he said.
