With a proven track of record of successfully organising major programmes, Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS and its eight cricket teams have been chosen to organise the 2016 Rose Hall Town Week. The Club was the choice of all the councillors present during the voting process to spearhead the township’s 46th anniversary celebration during a two weeks period in the month of September.

The eight cricket teams to organise the packed two weeks agenda would be the Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under 15, Rose Hall Town Bakewell Under 17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under 19 and Intermiade, Metro Females and Gizmos & Gadgets Under 21 and First Division teams. They will be supervised by the Club’s Educational and Public Relations Committee and the Over-35 group of the Club.

Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the RHTYSC, MS was delighted to be selected to organise the township’s 46th anniversary and as usual would work beyond the call of duty to make the events memorable for each resident of Guyana’s smallest township. The RHTYSC, MS in 2007 had co-organised the event which to date has been described as the best ever. The long standing Secretary/CEO stated that the main objectives of the two weeks activities would be to celebrate the township’s tradition and developments, to promote the Say No to Drugs, Suicide, Crime and Yes to Education, Life and Sports message, to attract tourists to Rose Hall Town, to assist youths to choose their future careers and to recognise the contribution of outstanding residents of Rose Hall Town. The confident 2011 Sports Personality of the Year Awardee stated that the Rose Hall Town 2016 Anniversary celebration would be the best ever organised by any township in Guyana.

The activities planned for the anniversary are an Opening Ceremony and Concert, Inter faith religious Service, Spelling Bee Competition for Primary Schools, Essay Competition for Secondary Schools, 20/20 Cricket Tournament, 5 a side Football Tournament, Volleyball and Basketball Tournaments, Steel band musical Concert, Medical Outreach programme, Opening of Family Recreational Park, Youth Career and Business Fair, Public Exhibition on the Township, Launching of a 40 page booklet on the History of Rose Hall Town, honouring of residents over the age of 85years, feeding the poor, a youth inspirational forum and a Day of Sports.

In addition, the Club with assistance of overseas based residents of the town, will decorate the entire township with flags and banners while large depictions of the logo for the 46th anniversary would also be on display. The energetic Foster also disclosed that a local Rose Hall Singer is currently working on composing a 46th anniversary theme song and jingle. Several 46th anniversary souvenirs would also be prepared for residents of the township including pens, mugs, and keyrings among others.

The opening ceremony on Wednesday 21st of September is expected to feature a March past featuring close to 700 persons. A special half hour Television Documentary on the township would also be unveiled during the opening ceremony, while the organisers would also honour outstanding students at the Grade 6 national examinations. Foster issued a special invitation to residents of the Township to work together with the Club to make the event a memorable one and to ensure that Rose Hall Town is promoted throughout the country in a positive way. The highlight of the two weeks celebration is expected to be the Youth Career and Business Fair, which is expected to attract close to over 100 NGO’s, schools, businesses, Government Agencies and Overseas service organisations.
