After making an encouraging debut at the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship in Jamaica earlier this year, Group 2B champion Afraz Allie then followed up that performance with another blistering display during the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) ‘Race of Champions’ Meet where he raced unbeaten against his local counterparts, at the South Dakota Circuit.

will be staged in front of home fans on November 24.

“We used the Meet last month as a warm up for what’s to come and I can say that there are many upgrades yet to be done so the fans can expect a real treat later this month, Allie told this newspaper via telephone recently.

The local champion currently lies third in the CMRC in the Group 2B category and according to him, the Team has been preparing diligently to launch an assault on hone turf to win the overall title at the most prestigious event in motor racing in the Caribbean.

Allie showed his mental resilience and skill even after having to start on grid 5 following a disappointing qualifying session which saw his Starlet front right wheel break clean out after cutting all its studs.

He told this newspaper that it was a clear manifestation of the amount of horsepower the car possesses, but which ultimately affected his chances of starting in pole position on race day. Exuding confidence, Allie said the encouraging results is just a preview of what is in store for November since the team plans to do some more modifications in time for the foreign invasion.

He expressed gratitude to the following sponsors for their contnued support and they include: Banks DIH through its Power Stout brand, Mohamed’s enterprise, Readymix Cement, Classic Printing Supplies, Prem’s Electrical, Mike’s Copy Centre, Martina’s Cambio, Cellphonix and Clifton Auto Spares.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism which has been on board for the past three years will once again partner the GMR&SC in an event that has evolved into a major sport tourism attraction.

GT&T, Seaboard Marine, Valvoline, Banks Beer and King’s Jewellery World are the major sponsors for this event.
