Uber has agreed to purchase 24,000 units of XC90 SUV from Volvo between 2019 and 2021, to build its self-driving fleet. The deal is none exclusive that is subject to change, depending on Uber’s needs, it also allows Uber to order vehicles from other manufacturers in order to grow its fleet as part of the agreement.

Uber will outfit each XC90 SUV with its own self-driving system, that they developed for the past 3 years with Volvo. Uber have been testing already an self-driving XC90 SUV in Arizona, San Francisco and Pittsburgh. Remember that autonomous Uber beats the red light?

From Volvo’s website, the base model XC90 T5 FWD Momentum have a $49,240 MSRP, while the top of the line 2018 XC90 T8 Plug-in Hybrid eAWD R-Design will have a $70,540 MSRP. This will make the deal is worth more than $1.2 Billion in sales for Volvo and it span of 3 years.
