I am excited to partner with ALDI to bring your one of our family’s favorite holiday recipes. While this post was sponsored, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

For the past several years, we have had German au pairs help us with childcare in our home. Each one of them has talked about ALDI and how wonderful it is. However, it wasn’t until just recently that I visited the ALDI near our home to check it out for myself. I went planning to just check it out but left with all of the ingredients for my family’s recipe for the best green bean casserole!

One of the best things about ALDI stores is their ability to keep costs down and pass savings directly to customers. Their stores are smaller than a typical grocery store which also makes shopping quick and easy. ALDI takes time in choosing their products very carefully so they can guarantee quality and freshness while keeping prices low. In fact, ALDI recently made a big move and got rid of added MSG, certified synthetic colors and partially hydrogenated oils from ALDI exclusive food brands. To help save customers money, 90% of the store is ALDI exclusive brands with a few national brands mixed in.

I wanted to compare how ALDI stacked up to the local store I usually shop in, so I did a little comparison when making my green bean casserole. I went to both stores and bought the store brand of all the ingredients I needed to make my recipe, including the made from scratch cream of mushroom soup. Here was the result.

Let’s see if the recipes looked or tasted any different with the different ingredients though.

Ingredients for The Best Green Bean Casserole:

4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2 inch pieces

3 slices Appleton Farms sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled

1/4 cup Friendly Farms sour cream

3 Tbsp milk

1 1/4 cup homemade cream of mushroom soup

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1 1/2 cup Chef’s Cupboard French fried onions

Let’s Make It:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a medium baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

2. Bring a large pot of water to boil over high heat. Add green beans and cook for 2 minutes. Immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain and pat dry with paper towels.

3. In a large bowl, combine cream of sour cream, milk, cream of mushroom soup, salt and pepper. Stir well to combine. Stir in green beans and 2/3 cup onions. Transfer to prepared baking dish. Top with crumbled bacon and remaining fried onions.

4. Bake for 10-15 minutes in preheated oven or until bubbly. Remove from oven and serve.

I baked these side by side with the separate ingredients and here is how they turned out. Can you guess which one is from the ALDI brands and which is the other?

I had Mathlete do a blind taste test {since he wasn’t home while I was cooking} and he couldn’t tell a difference. So, I was happy with saving the extra money and getting my ingredients from ALDI.

When shopping in ALDI, be sure to look for their exclusive brands like SimplyNature for great savings on items that are free from artificial colors, flavors or unnecessary enhancers or liveGfree for gluten free items ranging from snacks to frozen meals. It is easy to see why, according to a survey of US consumers conducted in 2016 by Market Force, ALDI is one of America’s favorite grocery stores. Find the ALDI near you and get shopping.
