Mesh tops over spaghetti or crop tops are seen everywhere, many with a black-on-black theme. But you can make the mesh top totally your own with a wonderful range of options. A sheer long-sleeved version with raglan shoulders and ribbed cuffs, neck and waist looks amazing when worn with tailored trousers, together with high heels and a clutch bag. Gain maximum impact by choosing a camisole corset-style top that shows off your décolletage gloriously, subtle overlaid with a long-sleeved chiffon top featuring neck ribbon detailing. A sleeveless polo neck with mesh inserts looks incredibly chic, or dress down with a knit top with mesh inserts, worn with distressed denim shorts or jeans.
Mesh skirts are not forgotten. 2014 sees a stunning crop of lengths, from mini to maxi and everything in between. Inspired by the tutu, layered tulle mini-skirts are perfect for projecting your sassy character, and come in a rainbow of vibrant colours. Wear with a fitted top and strappy sandals for added zing. Or try a black satin version with mesh border insert – looks superb with a little crop top and ankle boots. A knee-length version constructed with short satin underskirt and polka dot mesh with frilled hemline really catches the eye, or for something a little different, choose a short print underskirt with tea-length sheer net overlay, that is wonderful matched with platform mules and crop top with cut-out shoulders.
But mesh really comes into its own with mesh dresses. Ballroom fashion is all the rage this year, with sleeveless bodices, layered tulle skirts and with extra sparkle from metallic embroidered motifs and beadwork. Bodycon or tutu cocktail versions in vivid colours are unbeatable for clubbing in style, but for the full princess effect, opt for the quintessential evening gown with fitted bodice and sweeping skirt.
