This blog started out as an online diary where I post stuffs I really loved n what not, 3 years later and that's not gonna change.
So I've been seeing a lot of Natural hair inspiration and the crochet braids has to be my favourite and its the next style I want to try (if I can find affordable ones here in Nigeria).
So here's a compilation of the different styles of crochet braids I absolutely love.
Wish I could wear them all!
Crochet braids were very popular in ´90s, and it was called Latch Hook Braids. The new hair extensions are of much better quality, and the braiding techniques have also undergone evolution, so the result that you will have now will be really amazing and looking very natural.
Crochet braids made a huge debut in 2015 and we’re sure they are not going out of style any time soon. They always say that great styles and fashion always come back in style. This style is not only simple but easy to do as well.
It is a great protective style and has endless amounts of styling options. You can experiment with length, color, and textures. The original idea is for you to have a style that causes no stress and damage to your hair.
Crochet braids are just some hair extensions fixed to your natural hair, more precisely they are crocheted to the braided base on your scalp. But don´t be afraid. These curly tresses are fixed to your natural hair quite easily, you will just need latch hook and cornrows on your head. Your natural hair is braided underneath in a straight back pattern. You then loop or “knot” the crochet hair in a row to create a seamless style. If you like to wear braids or twist this style option is perfect because you do not have to sit for 6-8 hours to get them done.
THE PRO’S AND CON’S OF CROCHET BRAIDS
The pro’s of crochet braids:
Easy and probably the least time-consuming protective hairstyle
It looks a lot like your own hair, like a twist out
Crochet braids are very multifunctional
You can make it as expensive or cheap as you want (in regards to the choice of your fake hair)
Your own hair is highly protected and it’s easy to keep it clean and healthy
There’s a lot less tension on your scalp in comparison to other protective hair styles, provided that the cornrows aren't put in too tight
You can easily maintain a good scalp/skin condition
The con’s of crochet braids
This type of hair has the tendency to frizz easily which means you have to change it often or perhaps have to invest in a very good (read: often expensive) quality hair
You need a certain hooking needle (latch hook) to apply the crochet braids. You can also do it with a bobby pin but that’ll take longer.
If you don’t apply the braids correctly they’ll sag which looks kind of shabby.
You can see the knots in some peoples hair.
I'm really going to have a hard time deciding which of the styles I would do first.
I know some of y'all can guess my favourite styles.
Go big or go home!
