One of my good friends is just getting into the world of makeup. She works in retail at a jeweler. She had taken notice this year that every time she wears lipstick to work, she sells more. Specifically, bright red lipstick. I’m not surprised by the correlation, considering whenever I wear a bright lipstick, people tend to take note. I get the door held open for me more, people rush over to help me at the store, and I feel more confident in general.

She was telling me that she got a bonus at work (from the extra sales she made while wearing red lipstick, HA!) and had recently spent $200 on makeup to keep the good mojo going. My heart actually sank when she told me that because 1) I would have LOVED to be the one to take her shopping and 2) because I have a TON of makeup I’m trying to purge right now and she probably could’ve saved herself a couple hundo if she just came over and talked to me.

So naturally, because I don’t get to take her shopping and give her my recommendations, I turned to my blog. I want to tell you all about my favorite lipsticks that last all day, aka liquid lipsticks. There are lippies out there that will keep your lips hydrated all day (a balm), lippies that will keep your lips shiny (a gloss), lippies that have a flat color and add a bit of a sheen to your lips (a matte cream lipstick), and then there’s the matte and bulletproof stuff which is what I’m going to talk about. When I want to wear a bright lipstick, particularly a red, I really don’t want to look like an insane clown. I truly believe more people out there would be rocking a red lip on the daily if it was low maintenance. My number one fear before ever trying a red lip was the fear of having it smear all over my lips while I’m drinking coffee, or getting a piece of hair by my mouth and when I move it, having the red streak across my face.

Enter, liquid lipstick. I have three separate formulas I want to share with you today. Each is tried and true by me, and I would recommend any of them if you want your lipstick to last forever.

1) Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Icon. This is a pricey little treat if you get the full size, but I have the mini. I think I bought it at the checkout counter at Sephora. Or maybe it was a gift with purchase? Either way, if you can find a small size of this, it’s a great way to test the formula. When you open it, there’s a wand inside like a lipgloss. After applying it, it’s wet for a moment and then dries down in 10-20 seconds to be totally adhered to your lips. You can feel this on your lips as you’re wearing it, because they’re be slightly tighter/dryer than normal. For many, this shade is too deep and dark for an every day red lip, but for the beauty obsessed who know they can rock anything, this is a great shade for all day every day. It’s a blue based red, which means it’ll make your teeth look super bright white. If you eat something greasy while wearing this, you’ll probably be ok, although you might lose a little color just in the center of your lips. Besides a minor touchup after eating, this will literally last you the entire day and then some.

2) Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery. I discovered this at Sephora in Seattle almost two years ago. For my whole life, I never lived near a Sephora (cue tiny violin) and so every time I got to go somewhere that had the store, I would spend literally hours there. When we moved to Washington, we were going to take a road trip to Seattle for the weekend, and I had my money burning a hole in my pocket, just waiting to go to Sephora. That was the same trip I discovered Bite Beauty, and bought my first lipstick from them in Granache (love it). The woman at the checkout was wearing the world’s fiercest red lip and she told me it was the liquid lipstick in Fiery. I was totally lusting after it, but didn’t want to make an impulse buy that day. I kept wishing I had purchased it that day because it was sold out online for what seemed like forever. I bought it when I came home for Christmas that year and I’ve been loving it ever since.

A friend of mine is a photographer and I helped her with her boudoir shoots and brought Fiery with me. EVERYONE wanted to wear it. The last girl at the shoot stayed late and we ordered pizza and when she looked in the mirror and saw that her lipstick was still there after eating a greasy slice of pizza, she went online and ordered it immediately. I was reminded of this lippie the other day at a wedding when my husband’s cousin was wearing a gorgeous red lipstick. I noticed that she was not obsessively touching it up and it was still looking fabulous. When I asked about it she said it was Beso, another liquid lipstick from Stila’s line. She said her and all of her friends own it and love it because it’s such a low maintenance lippie.

Bite Sancerre

3) Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Creams in Sancerre, Crush, and Napa. These are slightly different from the other lipsticks I had mentioned. They don’t dry immediately to a matte formula. They are more of a creamy liquid lipstick. They give a little hydration to the lips and they have the potential for sliding around a little bit. I like the way they look and feel when they are applied like that. BUT, if you blot these a little bit, they turn into the most gorgeous matte stain and then have a similar consistency to the other liquid lipsticks I mentioned. Sancerre is the deepest pinkish red. Crush is a mid toned reddish coral. Napa is a deep cotton candy pink.

Bite Napa, Bite Crush, Bite Sancerre, Stila Fiery, Hourglass Icon

As with all of Bite Beauty’s products, each color is unique and striking. Each of the colors in this range are also vibrant and bright, or deep and vampy. Next, I would love to try Crianza (a dark pink with a red undertone) and Burgundy (a super dark berry purple).

Whew, long post. I should mention since liquid lipsticks don’t offer very much hydration, you’ll want to wear an extremely moisturizing lip balm the night before wearing one of these to keep your lips in good shape. I recommend Dr. Lipp. You will also want to exfoliate your lips because these don’t look pretty if you have tons of lip flakes. And lastly, to remove this at the end of the day, I would use a facial oil. They stick pretty well so your normal makeup remover probably won’t do much.

I am super curious what you wear if you want your lipstick to last all day. I love the three choices I mentioned here, but I’m sure there are lots more formulas out there that are also amazing. Tell me your favorite in the comments below!
