Every Wednesday this summer we'll be sharing a book review of some of our favorite books!  Plus, we'll be searching Pinterest high and low to gather all of the awesome activities we can find to go along with different books, or maybe even come up with some of our own.

Read along with us through the summer!

We're kicking off this series with Ladybug Girl, by David Soman and Jacky Davis.

Mack Attack excitedly checked the mail the other day.

She skipped to the mailbox singing a made up song about skipping to the mailbox.

It went something like this,

"I'm skipping to the mailbox, the mailbox, the mailbox.

I'm skipping to the mailbox. To see what I can see.

Daaado dado da doodity do dado."

She pulled open the door, peeked inside and started bouncing.

She bounced all the way back to the house.

Her excitement for her new book from imagination library came out in yet, another song.

"I got a ladybug book. I love ladybugs. Ladybugs love me.

I'm Bug Girl because I. love. bugs!"

She had gotten the book, Ladybug Girl and Bingo.

We sat on the couch and read her new Ladybug Girl book at least 10 times, before I couldn't read anymore and distracted her with a package of fruit chews. (I might have placed the book in a spot where she couldn't see it, too. Does that make me a bad parent? I just needed a little break).

Ladybug Girl is a series of books about a cute little girl named LuLu, who wears a red tutu ladybug costume, equipped with red boots with black polka dots. She and her dog, Bingo, go on lots of fun adventures together, where they learn very valuable life lessons.

As a mother I love how vivid Ladybug Girl's imagination is. I love how she shares her fears and through her Ladybug Girl self, she can conquer those fears. I love how she sees excitement in everything around her.

Mack Attack has always loved bugs, she has never been afraid of them. (Although may now be afraid of spiders since one day she was playing with one and I totally freaked out on her, smacking the spider out of her hand.) She loves to collect bugs, worms, and other crawly things and play with them, feed them, make beds for them, and become best friends with them. Until they get away, and then we see tears.  Some days she only answers when we call her "bug girl." So this is why she loves Ladybug Girl, because she is just like her!

There are so many fun ways to incorporate these books into play!

And our Ladybug Girl adventures couldn't be complete without a visit to Pinterest, to see what fun things they have to offer over there.

1. You can find a board game to play from First Grade a la carte that goes along with the book, "Ladybug Girl and The Bug Squad."

2. If you want to get creative and make your own ladybug costume you can find a pattern over at Brimful Curiosities.

3. Make your picnic lunch extra special with this lunch idea from Biting the Hand.

4.  If you love to crochet, this ladybug cuff bracelet from Craftsy will make the perfect accessory for any ladybug girl lover.  The pattern is free, and if you don't have a Craftsy account, don't worry!  It's free to sign up and easy to download the pattern.

5.  Make a ladybug craft out of paper plates from No Time For Flash Cards.

6. These ladybug rocks are the perfect summer craft  from Family Crafts.

Which book do you want to start with, or need to add to your collection?  Some of these are also available as board books for your littlest ladybugs! (click on the picture to be directed to amazon.com where you can purchase the book you want).

All of this has inspired me to do a Ladybug Girl themed birthday party for my "bug girl" who will be turning 4 in a month. (right now she wants a "Frozen" beach party, so it might take some convincing).

Have fun reading with your ladybugs this summer!
