The date August 12th, 1978 and sisters Susan and Betty Spiller are about to realize a lifelong dream, the purchase of a brand new Mahogany Metallic Corvette. The sisters chose Lapointe Chevrolet at 531 E. Trade Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to Betty's son Dave, the girls spotted it in the showroom and drove it off the floor. Their 1978 Corvette came from the St. Louis plant with the following factory options:

With the $252.00 destination charge, the girl's Corvette stickered out at $11,265.89.
On January 15th, 1982, Betty assumed full ownership of their Corvette and titled it solely in her name. At the time, the car had traveled a mere 8,000 miles. Betty drove her Corvette sparingly over the next thirty years, adding only 11,619 additional miles to the odometer.
Fast forward to present day, this is that same one owner, 1978 Corvette with only 19,619 original miles. The car has never been modified and minus fluids and filters is just how the General built her nearly 35 years ago.
The exterior paint appears to be original with it's share of blemishes. I believe that the rear bumper was repainted at one time due to discolration. I love original paint cars and I would not change a thing.
The interior is original from the headliner to the carpet. The dash, door panels, leather seats, seatbelts, and carpet are in very good original condition. The original T-Top bags are in excellent condition. Even the original GM floor mats are still with the car. All gauges from the tach to the original GM clock function without issue. Yes, the original clock still works. As listed earlier, this Corvette was ordered "radio delete", one of only 1,671 of the 40,274 built, less than 5%. However, a correct Delco AM/FM 8 track unit and fixed mast antenna were installed at the Chevy dealer early on. The radio is intermittent.
The engine compartment is original and has dodged the "rattle can" treatment over the last 35 years. The engine, transmisssion, and rear end are "born with" components. Most hoses, wires, and clamps are original to this one owner Corvette as well.
The undercarriage is in good unrestored condition. The chalk marks on the passenger side frame and shim numbers are still visible. The frame and pick up areas are rock solid with minor scale. It's everything you would expect from an honest 19K mile, one owner Corvette.
The car starts, hits high idle, and drives great. I replaced all four brake calipers and pads with correct GM Delco units and fully bled the system this past week. She not only runs great now but stops great as well. I changed the oil and replaced the filter with a Delco unit as well.

This one owner Corvette is loaded with the following original documents: original window sticker, original EPA Fuel Economy Estimate, original warranty book, original 1978 owners manual, original 1978 Consumer Information manual, original tire and battery warranties, original "20 day" temporary drive away registration, and 1982 title documenting 8,000 miles as of 1-15-82. This one owner, low mile Corvette is a wonderful Candidate for NCRS Bowtie or Bloomington Gold Survivor Judging. It's about as original as they come.
Over fifty percent of the Silver Anniversary cars were ordered in either the two tone silver or pace car finish. Less than five percent were finished in code 82 Corvette Mahogany.
