Parents, especially moms, are always on the lookout for ways to save money without sacrificing quality and comfort. However, child-centered events, such as the first birthday and the christening or baby naming event, can make it such a challenge. Despite the need to splurge, it is actually possible for moms to still stay on budget, and this already includes shopping for the perfect christening dress (or suit) for your baby!

Thrift Stores

There is no shame in wearing items coming from thrift stores, even when it comes to the child’s christening outfit. When you happen to drop by one, make sure to scour every nook and cranny – who knows you might actually be able to find a treasure in those racks! But, take time to check every seam of the dress or suit, to make sure that they are still in great condition. If not, try to see if it is not beyond repair otherwise, you may be better off discarding it.

Online Shops

Many online shops specialize in selling baby items such as dresses, suits and even christening outfits – simply do an online search to lead you to these gems. At times, these shops would also offer certain discounts and bargains, such as a percentage off the price on your first purchase when you create an account with them. Be always on the lookout for these things, especially if you already have your eyes set on a particular christening outfit that your child could wear.

Discounts and Coupons and Perfect Timing

There are times when online shops and physical stores would give out huge discounts on their items as long as you purchase from them at a certain time. Make sure to subscribe to your favorite shop’s newsletter, so you would always be on the loop, when it comes to the latest items that are on sale or that are hugely discounted.

Family Heirloom

Have you already spent an arm and a leg on your previous child’s christening outfit? If your next child is of the same gender, then you do not have to splurge on yet another outfit for the occasion. So, you do not have any that you could reuse? Try asking from family and friends if they are willing to give or let you borrow a christening dress or suit for the occasion. Of course, it would be best to ask yourself first if you are willing to accept these items in exchange for being able to save hundreds of dollars for that special outfit.

You can also try asking from your mom or your mom-in-law if there is a family heirloom that your child could wear on the day of the christening. Letting your child wear a family heirloom not only allows you to save money, but also makes the occasion more intimate, as your child is donning something close to his or her heart.

Remember that the perfect christening outfit need not be expensive. After all, it is not the dress or the suit that is the center of attention but, the child who will be wearing it. Cheers!
