I do love hot Mexicans. And I love Mexican food too. So when a Mexican delivery service opened recently, that served my area, you can imagine just how happy I was. Surprisingly I found out by a paper menu in the letterbox. Who uses them these days, with them all available online? It got my attention though.

I recently got to try it out, by ordering through the amazing Just-Eat. I placed the order (which was super simple, as always) just after 7:20 on a Saturday night, and was given a delivery time of 8:05. The delivery was bang on time, though the driver had difficulty with not knowing the area. That happens, and is totally forgiveable.

We ordered a selection of items from the quite extensive menu. Every dish comes with a choice of meat/veg filling and a great choice of salsa, ranging from very mild to very hot.

We ordered:

Combo Marinated Chicken & Spicy Steak Fajita

Pulled Pork & Chorizo Enchilada

Slow Cooked Lamb Chimichanga

Nachos

Tequila Chicken Wings (Free with order over €25)

Also received were a portion of chips and 2 cartons of mango juice

The Highs:

There was plenty of food. Four diners with large appetites were easily fed with the selection we had. In fact we could have happily left one of the main dishes, and still been well fed. I still have a dish of tortilla chips to enjoy when everything else settles down. If you’re looking for a big feed, look no further!

Spicy food is good food. The lamb chimichanga had habanero salsa inside, which had the cheeky ability to sneak up on everyone before beating them with a club. I will admit I suffered a little because of it, but chilli heads will love it. That said, even when a milder salsa was included in a dish, there was no lack of flavour, with everything being really delicious in its own way!

Delivery time was excellent. Knowing that when it says a particular time and will arrive at a particular time is a definite plus.

The lows:

I did make a special request of all salsas being put on the side, as opposed to being in the dishes. When it arrived, the salsa was in the dish it was ordered with, as opposed to on the side. I would have preferred to be able to try different dishes with the different salsas, but I guess I will just have to order different dish combinations next time.

When the order arrived, there was no chicken wing dish with it. A quick phone call to the restaurant rectified that, and an order of wings was sent out. When they arrived I was politely told that as there were no wings available at the time of the original order they had sent the chips and juices in place of the wings, but had no problem with supplying the wings too. Excellent customer service there.

Overall:

It can be very difficult for a new restaurant to get a customer base, particularly in such a difficult and competitive environment. Mexicano has the benefit of being part of an already established restaurant, but without even considering that, if you are looking for delicious, spicy Mexican food, that’s well priced, and delivered when you want it, you really can’t go far wrong! Now where did I leave my tequila, Corona and limes? Olé!
