Carnival 2015

The 2015 National Panorama Single Pan preliminaries will run off in all regions over a four-day period with total of 70 steelbands registered to participate.

The first competition, comprising bands from the North, carded for tonight, takes place at The Paddock, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, from 6 pm. In this zone, 32 bands will perform their Panorama selection before the adjudication panel.

The following day, January 17, is earmarked for bands of the Eastern Region preliminary with 21 bands going through their paces at The Arima Velodrome, Arima. Starting time is 6 pm.

January 18 will see bands from South/Central Region competing with a dozen steelbands performing their tune of choice at the Petrotrin Sports Club Car Park, Guaracara Park, Point-a-Pierre. Showtime is 5 pm.

Bands from Tobago will have their day on January 19 at the Buccoo Integrated Facility, Buccoo, Tobago. Starting time for this event is 7 pm. Five bands will compete in this Zone.

Price of admission to all venues is $60.

Single Pan steelbands, formerly “pan round de neck,” shall comprise 45 players maximum with a minimum of 25 players.

For the purpose of the competition, each participating steelband may select and perform any calypso, as long as the same selection has not been played by said steelband in a previous Panorama competition.

Bands will be judged by a panel of four judges and will be awarded points for arrangement (40); general performance (40); tone (10); and, rhythm (10).

Each of the Single Pan bands will be vying for one of 32 places in the national semi-final round (Single Pan & Small Conventional Bands) at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Saturday January 31.

The theme of this year’s competition is Reach for the Stars……. Pan in Ecstasy.
