Drury Lane Brewtown Newtown

Located on the 1st floor of Newtown cafe hotspot Brewtown Newtown is the innerwest’s latest patisserie sweet spot; Drury Lane. Working with Alister Wise of Hobart’s Sweet Envy (their Pecan Sticky Buns was featured in Gourmet Travelle’s Top 50 dishes – and we did spot a version of it in store). Drury Lane takes over the former Oconnell Street merchant space with seating set up around the floor for visitors to sit and eat their treats. We should add that at Drury Lane, most of the goodies won’t be available at Brewtown downstairs and you’ll need to wander upstairs for these.

A quick look across the baked good cabinet. There’s giant cookies, sticky buns, croissants, muffins, brownies and lamingtons, all well priced and amazing looking.

They’ve made efficient use of the space here; roastery for the Brewtown beans to the one side and Drury Lane slotting alongside.

Drury Lane’s kitchen also pumps out Pies and sausage rolls and the varieties on offer – a duo of sausage rolls: Pork Fennel and a Lamb Harissa. On the Pie front, Cauliflower cheese, Tongue and cheek and a Chicken and Sausage Gumbo Pie.

Drury Lane’s patisserie range looks pretty amazing with a gorgeous selection of cakes and bites.

Brewtown coffes, Fossex Jar and a Monti Biscuit. That’s one big biscuit

Monti Cookie $7. Really large, satisfyingly bitey with tasty cream and jam filling. Notes of orange and so so filling.

Fossex Jar.$7 Custard, Cream, crumble. Light, not overtly sweet and very satisfying.

Brewtown’s house roasted coffee is always delicious but these treats are a delight and a nice complement.

The Drury Lane Patisserie offers a great range of dessert and savoury options. That Sticky Pecan Pie is next for us.
