August 22nd is quickly approaching, the day when our 2013 cohort get to reveal their companies at Investor Day. Be sure to grab a free ticket while they are available.

We recently conducted an interview series with some of the fine founders of the businesses born in the program this year. Please enjoy and share this with your friends and colleagues. See you on Investor Day.

Who are you and what do you do?

I am Anup Gosavi, Co-founder of Zingfin. We help investors pick the right stocks based on social sentiments. I am responsible to create a delightful user experience and take Zingfin to as many retail investors as possible.

Where did you go to college? What did you study?

I did my MBA from the top ranked entrepreneurship school, Babson College in Massachusetts. While I took the usual courses in finance and strategy, I concentrated on marketing.

Describe your company in three words or less?

You + Zingfin = Smarter Investments

If money were no object where in the world would you like to be?

If we are talking about places, I would love to work out of Vienna! The culture and architecture has always fascinated me.

What is one of your proudest accomplishments to date?

Making my first mobile app startup cash positive was a proud moment professionally. We bootstrapped and reaching users without any marketing budget was a hard yet great learning experience. Having a great team to share the moment with made it that much sweeter.

What was your first entrepreneurial experience?

I offered to water all the plants in the house for 50 cents when i was really young. My mom paid  put an extra dollar if I did it without creating a mess!

What have you learned from JSF so far?

Everything you do and the way you do everything sends a message!

That has been the fundamental learning at JSF. The teams, mentors and advisors work really hard on each and every detail of the companies – be it the pitch, the brochure or even the curve of the buttons on the website. We think the products/ services we create are our message.

What’s your personal or company theme song?

“Don’t you worry child” by Swedish House Mafia.

Great during those days when nothing seems to work.

Would you recommend JSF? Why?

I would recommend JSF to everyone who is serious about pursuing a business opportunity. The focus and structure it brings is amazing. We are privileged to have a huge network of mentors and advisors who offer tactical advice that is crucial to any early stage startup.

The strategic direction, tactical advice and connections to the industry that JSF offer will be a differentiator as the company grows.

What is one tip you have for fellow entrepreneurs?

Understand what is valuable.

There are many things that you could be doing. People offer many different suggestions. But the entrepreneur and the team should spend some time in understanding what is most valuable at that moment of time. It is a difficult skill to master and I am learning to get better at it.

What can investors look forward to seeing on Investor Day?

We feel proud that we actually have a working product that is in the Beta version and are excited to show the actual demo on Investor day. This version is just the first step to a future of immense potential.

Any final thoughts?

All of us are from Boston and had never visited Nashville before. But the warm welcome by the Nashville entrepreneurship community was absolutely amazing. We immediately felt part of the family and met some great investors, advisors and other fellow entrepreneurs. We now have many good friends and the late night discussions and friendly banter make all the hard work worth it.
