### DUTIES:

You will serve as a District technical authority and consultant on Fire Prevention/Protection (FPP) engineering with responsibility for providing expert advice on the interpretation of FPP policy directives and programs responsible for establishing and implementing District-wide FPP engineering regulations, criteria and standards. You will develop and distribute procedural guides and instructions for District use in implementing programs. You will plan, direct, and coordinate all FPP requirements at the project programming stage and through the beneficial occupancy stage. You will review and approve fire prevention, protection and detection designs, studies and analyses prepared by Architect-Engineer (AE) firms and District in-house personnel. You will direct and coordinate the efforts of architects, civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers to produce comprehensive fire prevention and protection documents. You will serve as consultant to District offices, tri-services customers in Japan, GOJ and others regarding fire protection and detection systems design, information, data and problems.

### QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. **Experience required:**

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience to perform the duties such as performing detailed reviews of design and shop drawings and providing an acceptance testing of building and site fire protection systems being constructed, developing detailed design on fire protection, fire suppression, fire prevention, mass notification, and life safety designs, providing detailed design analysis reports, and evaluating work orders for compliance with federal accessibility, building, and fire codes.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

* General Engineering
* Process/Policy Management
* Team Management
* Fire Protection

**Basic Requirement:** In addition to meeting the Specialized Experience requirements above, you must meet the Basic Requirement below. You must upload transcripts or other documentation which shows that you meet the Basic Requirements.

A. Successful completion of a four year course of study leading to a Bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering that included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts along with your application for verification). OR

B. Possession of a current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your current registration along with your application for verification). OR

C. Passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, and in addition, have a combination of education in the field of general engineering and professional engineering experience which totals at least four years. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your EIT examination and your transcripts along with your application for verification). OR

D. Completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences. This course work included differential and integral calculus, as well as courses in at least five of the seven areas listed in the second bullet above. In addition, have professional engineering experience when combined with my education totals at least four years. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts along with your application for verification). OR

E. A Bachelor's or higher degree in engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, geology, or another scientific field directly related to engineering. In addition, have at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. NOTE: a SF-50 reflecting that you currently or formerly served as an Engineer for the Federal Government is NOT qualifying supporting documentation for the basic requirement. You MUST submit either your transcripts, current registration as a professional engineer, and/or EIT examination as applicable.
