### Summary
Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) operates as a field activity of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness). DoDEA's schools are divided into 3 geographic areas: Europe, the Pacific, and the Americas. Each area is currently managed by an area director. Within each of these three areas, schools are organized into districts headed by superintendents. DoDEA is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and managing prekindergarten through 12th grade educational programs on behalf of the Department of Defense (DoD). DoDEA is globally positioned, operating 172 accredited schools in 14 districts located in 11 foreign countries, 7 states, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA employs approximately 15,000 employees who serve more than 74,000 children of active duty military and DoD civilian families. ### Duties
**This announcement is used to fill the following temporary part-time seasonal positions.
Incumbent may perform some or all of the duties described below:**
**EDUCATIONAL AIDE (General), GS-1702-04**
Prepares instructional materials related to class lessons by typing, duplicating, arranging, or displaying materials as instructed. Prepares letters, tests, schedules, purchase orders, and other documents through the use of a personal computer or typewriter. The position does not require competitive level typing or office automation skills. Collects resources such as maps, charts, magazine articles, and library books for teachers and students to support the educational lessons designed by the classroom teacher. Monitors students on the playground, in hallways and restrooms, during study halls, during lunch, and in bus loading areas. Supervises small study groups and student committees, testing situations (as appropriate), and students' individual research projects. Assists students in subject areas and make-up work.
**EDUCATIONAL AIDE (Kindergarten), GS-1702-04**In this position, you will assist the Kindergarten teacher in the implementation of the full-day Kindergarten program for early childhood education by performing the following tasks: Assumes responsibility for conducting and guiding children in group activities such as reading, fine arts activities, etc., according to the guidelines and strategies of "Building the Primary Classroom," the DoDEA Kindergarten content standards, and other educational and DoDEA directives, regulations, guides, manuals, and handbooks as well. May monitor students on playgrounds, in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria during recess and lunch periods, and in bus loading areas before and after school, to assist students in their activities, ensure proper behavior, and observation of safety rules.
**EDUCATIONAL AIDE (Special Education), GS-1702-04**In this position, you will assist the special education instructional program for students with disabilities. Employees in this position provide assistance in teaching skills in toileting, feeding, eating, and personal hygiene. Lift, carry, transfer, and facilitate the motor development of physically impaired students. Observes and records student's behaviors and activities. Tutors students. Performs a variety of administrative tasks. Assists handicapped students to and from school. The employee may be assigned to work in classroom, media center, health clinic, or school office. May monitor students on playgrounds, in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria during recess and lunch periods, and in bus loading areas before and after school, to assist students in their activities, ensure proper behavior, and observation of safety rules.
**EDUCATIONAL AIDE (Sure Start), GS-1702-04**In this position, you will collaborate with and assist the Sure Start teacher in the implementation of the Sure Start Program for enrolled children. Sure Start Aides assist the Sure Start Teacher by providing administrative support. They plan and assist with room arrangement, activities, and schedules. Conducts and guides children in group activities. Participates in home visits. Contributes to reports and assessments. Assists in planning and conducting parent activities. Serves as Sure Start committee member. The employee may be assigned to work in classroom, media center, health clinic, or school office. May monitor students on playgrounds, in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria during recess and lunch periods, and in bus loading areas before and after school, to assist students in their activities, ensure proper behavior, and observation of safety rules.

### Qualifications
**In order to qualify for these positions**, applicants must possess **one year of general work experience** that has equipped the applicant with knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. **General experience** is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
**Applicants who do not meet generalized experience requirement, may substitute experience with education OR a combination of experience and education.**
This position requires completion of two years above high school **OR**Combination of post high school level education and general experience that meets 100% of the qualification -i.e 6 months general experience with one(1) year education above high school.
One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in business, secretarial or technical school.
**Are You Qualifying Based on Education?** An electronic photocopy of all OFFICIAL college/university transcripts (front and back) must be submitted. To receive the maximum allowable credit you must include all transcripts (front and back) for each degree earned to include any additional courses currently in progress. Any transcripts submitted that are not in English or not official will be removed from the application and will not be considered. (Transcripts must be in English.)
**Foreign Education**: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:**
All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. Incumbent may be subject to the 5-year foreign area limitation according to the DoDI 1400.25-V1230, dated 26 July 2012.
Incumbent may be required to complete a 1-year probationary or trial period.
