**1. Position Purpose Statement**
Category Manager, Gum, is responsible for developing and implementing a portfolio strategy to drive the category growth and deliver business objectives through effective teams.
Works closely with other functional teams and leads strongly to realize the business objectives.
This position owns and manages the category P&Ls and all brand P&Ls as well as the future business development plan and objectives. The jobs scope includes the mid term brand development including NPD and Platform opportunities.
Major brands in Gum business in Japan are; Clorets, Recaldent, & Stride
1. **Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities**
**Key accountabilities**
Reporting to Director, Marketing, Category Manager, and Candy is accountable for:
**Strategic Planning**
+ Responsible for developing Vision for their portfolio within the context of Mondelēz Japan Limited business objectives as well as Mondelēz Japan overarching strategies.
+ Determine the category’s strategies and priorities (including resource allocation) based on understanding growth opportunities for key brands in the portfolio.
+ Develop the 3 year strategic plan and annual plans including setting objectives, developing portfolio strategy, and allocating resources. Provide specific recommendations and sell-in plans to high-level Management and cross-functional teams.
**NPD and Innovation**
+ Lead cross-functional team in generating pipeline of big ideas: both base business innovation and stretch New Product Development (NPD) that will deliver sustainable, incremental growth.
+ Responsible for prioritizing, aligning the cross-functional team, resourcing and executing big innovations for their portfolio working closely with CIC Manager, Global Category team and the Regions cross-country teams if necessary.
**Organization Development**
+ Takes ownership of the effectiveness of the cross-functional Category team. Takes active role in influencing membership / selection of cross-functional Category team.
+ Creates a winning brand team. Manages talent through effective recruitment, development, coaching and advancement planning.
+ Develop clear objectives for direct reports consistent with Value and business objectives. Train and develop direct report using Leadership Imperatives as a guide, regularly communicate performance as per the Performance Management Process guidelines and make training an everyday priority.
+ Actively participates in the development of effective training, and facilitates delivery of training material.
**Integrated Marketing Communications**
+ Drives cross-brand activities (especially media optimization) to maximize portfolio impact.
+ Ensures all marketing communications deliver to strategy.
**P&L Management / Financial Forecasting**
+ Prioritizes and ensures resources are focused to deliver portfolio objectives. Accountable to deliver portfolio P&L in line with business objectives.
**4. Operating Environment**
Mondelēz Japan Limited is a fast-growing leading confectionary company which carries well-known & loved brands in Gum & Candy market. The Gum Market in Japan has a challenge and our goal is to become No.1 in Gum market by 2014 from the current No.2 position of over 26% market share.
The main channels are; CVS, GSM, SM, Drug Stores and Kiosk and this gives a complexity to maximize our brand presence at all channels through direct and indirect (through Wholesalers) management of the channels. Also, gum and candy, both are impulse products and the innovation and the frequent flavour / package changes are critical to drive the category growth. Our competitors are also on the same track so that we need to beat them by developing and bringing new technology and products quickly to the market. Sales team is required to work closely with Marketing, RD&Q and Operations.
The main challenges are to build world-class marketing capability 1) to win in the very competitive and challenging market by leading the category growth through innovation and excellent marketing based upon consumer insights and 2) to create consumer centric marketing team and 2) to drive winning culture & develop leadership capability. This role has a critical impact on the success of marketing team and we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced manager with strong learning agility.

**(a)** **Knowledge including: education, qualifications and training**
+ 4 year college degree - Business or marketing degree required
+ MBA in Marketing preferred

+ Demonstrated strong project management capability to manage and lead cross-functional teams of local BU teams such as Sales, RD&Q and Operations as well as Global and Regional Category teams
+ Proven ability to own and manage the business objectives and budget, pro-actively identifying opportunities/issues.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills both in Japanese and English to communicate with the cross-functional teams and high- level management.
+ Strong analytical and computer skills (proficiency in all MS Office applications, SRI a plus).
+ Proven success translating consumer need/objective into programs
**(c)** **Experience**
+ At least 8 years of consumer marketing experience with a packaged goods company, preferably with fast-moving consumer goods or consumer food industries.
+ Management experience is required.
+ Demonstrated success as a functional manager working at a multi-national company operating in Japan
+ Proven ability to develop and drive the brands or category growth preferably in FMCG industry
