The incumbent will provide marketing and communications support to Project Managers, Head PPT, the wider BC South Africa team. The role will place particular emphasis upon maximising our online platforms (website, social networks, e-mail marketing, etc) to extend the organisation’s reach amongst young South Africans.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
The postholder will be accountable to Head of Business Development for the successful delivery of marketing and communications function across the directorate and cluster.
The postholder will be responsible for providing communications direction, advice and support to Project Managers.
Specific duties will include but not limited to:
Digital Communications (50%)
Develop a communications strategy to build and maintain online communities around our work
Responsibility for updating and running British Council South Africa web presence according to the country strategy.
Ensure visibility of digital tools are maximised through SEO, and co-ordinate with other channels (media and offline) to optimise integrated communications delivery
Producing persuasive content to usher traffic to our online platforms
Managing BC SA’s social media approach and assets, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr
Monitoring online performance using analytics software and using this to identify risks and opportunities
Marketing (20%)
Work with Head Business Development to effectively market the portfolio of work offered by British Council South Africa
Acting as brand champion; monitoring and maintaining the correct use of the British Council brand
Assist the production of case studies, brochures, presentations and partnership materials
Internal Communications (20%)
Assisting project teams in SA to identify communication opportunities during the planning phase of projects and assist them to produce clear and succinct project copy for communications purposes
Acting as key communications liaison with the regional communications team
Managing South Africa’s internal communications on the regional intranet
Building communications capability of wider British Council South Africa teams
Press/Media work (10%)
Writing compelling content for publication in the national media and press
Promoting British Council stories by building a relationship with the UK press and Bulletin team
Actively growing and managing the various databases of country contacts
Briefing, managing and contracting all media-related freelancers, agencies and third parties.

Coordination, cooperation and collaboration with business units, exams and senior management colleagues
UK press and internal communications team
External:
Relationships with British High Commission communications team and press and marketing/PR agencies

There will be an occasional need for work outside conditioned hours. TOIL should be agreed in advance with line manager to maintain an adequate work-life balance The postholder may be required to travel abroad on BC business and should therefore hold valid travel documents.
Experience Required
Fluency in written and spoken English
Two years’ experience in Communications role
Professional writing and editing skills
