On Episode 282 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed CrossFit Games qualifier Heather Gillespie and CrossFit Eternal owner Joshua Elmore. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, June 26, 2013.

2:52 Heather Gillespie won the Canada West Regional and will be making her second trip to the Games. She explained how the women’s competition was turbulent but tough because Alicia Connors, Emily Beers, Angie Hay and Chelsea Miller either got injured or went team, and strong athletes such as masters Games competitor Nancy McKeage stepped up to fill the void. Gillespie talked about how her training has progressed, and she spoke about how a lack of skill in the ocean set her back at last year’s Games. Finally, she described how the serious flooding in Alberta has affected her gym and some members.

28:41 Joshua Elmore started CrossFit in 2008 and now owns CrossFit Eternal. He gave advice to anybody trying to select a CrossFit affiliate, including how to identify a good coach and effective programming. Elmore explained how he follows Coach Greg Glassman’s advice to pursue excellence, and he described how he programs in two-to-four-week cycles to target different aspects of CrossFit. Elmore spoke about training elite competitors at the same time as everyday CrossFit athletes, and he gave his thoughts on the pros and cons of remote coaching.
