Associate Professor (Communications)

The School of Arts and Communication is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor (Level D) in Communication. Situated within the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts, the School has a staff complement of approximately 50 academics representing 17 disciplines spanning the Humanities, Communication, Social Sciences and Creative Arts.

This rewarding role will afford you the opportunity to apply your academic leadership skills and make a significant contribution to all activities within the school. Under the direction of the Head of School, you will contribute to teaching in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs whilst working with an enthusiastic team in developing new curriculum directions. You will also utilise your accomplished research background to produce quality publications, pursue external funding and work with colleagues to lead and shape high-impact projects within the area of communications.

To ensure your success in this role, you will possess a PhD in the discipline of Communication and Media or Journalism and Public Relations. You will have demonstrated evidence of high quality teaching experience, leadership and productivity including course and program coordination along with an established track record in research. Your ability to lead and work collaboratively amongst research and teaching teams will be supported by your well developed interpersonal, communication and organisation skills and energetic approach.

The team

The Academic division includes the University’s Faculties and Campuses as well as the Open Access College, Centre for Australian Indigenous Knowledges and Queensland College of Wine Tourism. The Academic division has overall responsibility for the University’s academic program portfolio; its continuous improvement and its quality delivery. The Academic division has a leading strategic and operational role in the policies, procedures and practices relating to learning and teaching, student experience, research and research training, and, related academic matters.

The Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts encompasses teaching and research in a wide range of disciplines grouped into 6 Schools: Arts and Communication; Management and Enterprise; Commerce; Law and Justice; Teacher Education and Early Childhood; and Linguistics, Adult and Specialist Education. The breadth of interests in the Faculty facilitates a stimulating multi-disciplinary environment for both students and staff members. It also enables the Faculty to prepare and sustain its students, including through life-long learning, to be global professionals for the contemporary world.
