Having Kobe Beef is one of the main highlights when I was in Japan 日本 for my vacation earlier this month. It was part of the plan where I was all ready to splash out some hard earned money to get a taste of this premium offering which was being told all over the place. The dining plan was especially special looking at the fact that my girlfriend was there along with me and it was close to our anniversary date.







Upon reading the reviews on Wakkoqu 神戸牛ステーキ あぶり肉工房 和黒 in Kobe 神戸 on Tripadvisor (Currently ranked No.1 restaurant in Kobe), I decided that this would be the place to go to have my first Kobe Beef Steak experience! It was around 7PM at night where we traveled from Osaka to Kobe and reached Sannomiya 三宮 station after changing 3 trains. Took a 10 minutes walk before reaching our destination.

Wakkoqu is a relatively small and modern Teppanyaki style restaurant which have this quiet and cozy atmosphere within. All the seating were set around Teppanyaki grills where a chef will serve you through out your dining session.

We were given the menu and ordered almost immediately.

We both ordered the Sirloin 250g set and the Tenderloin 230g set which come with appetizer, salad, bread, coffee and 100% Kobe Beef goodness!

I had smoked salmon for appetizer while she had this seafood jelly followed by this salad dish served for the 2 of us. However, the two slab of Kobe beef got our full attention through out the whole time when we were on our way finishing our appetizers. We were then busy snapping pictures here and there.

One of the highly experienced chef there soon came and started slicing and placing the pieces of beef on the iron grill in front of us. Skip that part and fast forward to the point where we had our first piece of Kobe Beef, it was really satisfying.

Though it wasn’t as how many would have described where it melts in your mouth (that would be slightly exaggerating), it was really extremely soft and tender at the same time being really tasty. We had it medium rare and it was grilled to perfection, the fact that we get to monitor how it was prepared enhanced the whole dining experience altogether!

We were provided 3 choice of consuming the pieces of Kobe beef; with salt, black pepper or fried garlic. All three alternatives to have the Kobe beef provides you 3 different ways in tasting the well textured beef. With salt, it brings out the original taste of the Kobe beef where with black pepper there’s a slight hint of spice. Last but not least, eating Kobe beef with the fried garlic gives you more flavor ultimately.

I personally enjoy having it with a pinch of salt. It was so good I wished I could have the budget to order more!

Assorted Grilled Vegetables at Wakkoqu 神戸牛ステーキ あぶり肉工房 和黒 (Food Rating – 4.5/5)

We had assorted grilled vegetables and slices of bread to go along with the main course too. It was a super awesome experience. For the two of us, it’s rare we have chance to enjoy such delicacy and so I really appreciate what Wakkoqu has to offer that night. The staffs there were extremely friendly and the chef had a big smile through out the time when he was serving us personally.

To say that it was heavenly having the chance to eat Kobe beef is not overrated. It was one of the best dining experience I had to date I must say. Of course, having good food with the person you cherish definitely makes the dinner extra special and enjoyable.

As I’ve came across several reviews about Kobe Beef in Kobe itself, I’m not entirely sure which restaurant serves the best Kobe Beef but I can say that Wakkoqu gets my thumbs up overall. The bill totaled up to around ¥‎23,000 Yen. Totally worth it. (If you have a tight budget but you really want to have a try on Kobe Beef, you can try looking at the Kobe Beef lunch offerings, lunch meals in Japan are generally cheaper compared to dinner)
