The 13th Global Chinese Music Awards was held successfully at Putra Indoor Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur last Saturday (5 October 2013) with more than 30 celebrities gracing the awards show in Malaysia. The star studded attendees include 戴佩妮 Penny Tai, 光良 Michael Wong, 曹格 Gary Chaw, 伍家辉 Wu Jia Hui, 李欣怡 Cheryl Lee, 李幸倪 Gin lee, 邓养天 Isaac Dang from Malaysia；容祖儿 Joey Yung, 罗力威 Adason Lo, 邓紫棋 Gem Tang, 林峰 Raymond Lam, 谢安琪 Kay Tse, 阿娇钟欣潼 Gillian Chung, 阿Sa蔡卓妍 Charlene Choi from Hong Kong；胡夏 Hu Xia, 周笔畅 Bibi Zhou, 刘美麟 Liu Mei Lin, 薛之谦 Jacky Xue, 晴昕 Jackline from China；潘玮柏 Wilber Pan, IO乐团 IO Band, 韦礼安 William Wei from Taiwan and 何维健 Derrick Hoh from Singapore. A total of 72 awards were given out that night.

Joey Yung 容祖儿 who won the Most Popular Female Artiste Award 最受欢迎女歌手奖 for the 4th consecutive time was one of the biggest winners of the night grabbing 4 awards in total. Raymond Lam 林峰, Bibi Zhou 周笔畅, Wilber Pan 潘玮柏 and Kay Tse 谢安琪 also won 4 awards in The 13th Global Chinese Music Awards show.
On the other hand, the Best Male Artiste Award 最佳男歌手 and Best Female Artiste Award 最佳女歌手 fell onto artiste from the Malaysian Gang which is Gary Chaw 曹格 and Penny Tai 戴佩妮 respectively.
Jointly organised by 7 radio stations across Malaysia (988 Radio), Singapore (YES933), Taiwan (台北Pop Radio), Hong Kong (香港电台) and China (上海动感101, 广东电台音乐之声 & 北京音乐广播), the award which started back in 2010 is in its 13th year where this is the second time Malaysia is hosting the event itself. The last time Malaysia hosted this awards show was 8 years ago back in 2005.
The awards show started 8PM sharp with an opening act performance featuring local artiste such as Khylune, Dennis Lau, 李馨巧 Crystal Lee, 茜拉 Shila Amzah & etc performing up on stage. Emcees of the night were introduced then where the first award was presented at around 8.10PM.

Highlights
1. Through out the awards show, there were several tributes to some notable singers who contributed a whole lot to the Chinese Music Industry in the past few decades. Beyond, Anita Mui 梅艳芳, Leslie Cheung 张国荣 & 陈白强. The tracks performed were 情人, 海阔天空, 寂寞到夜深, 偏偏喜欢你, 追, 风继续吹, 亲密爱人 and 梦伴 by IO乐团 IO Band, Michael Wong 光良, Kah Jun 凌加崚 and Gin Lee 李幸倪.
2. Gary Chaw 曹格 who was one of the biggest winner of the night. He was also the biggest joker of the awards show where he repeatedly showed his admiration towards Charlene Choi Ah Sa of Twins through out the show. He mentioned that she was pretty when he received his award, apart from that he also asked other male singer such as Michael Wong, Lam Fung, Wilber Pan & etc to mentioned that Charlene Choi is extremely pretty last night.
Gary later explained in the media interview session backstage stating that he wants to bring a bit more laughter to the awards show where he thinks an awards show should be all fun and entertaining, more than just a serious event acknowledging the efforts by singers alike.
3. Joey Yung 容祖儿 brought down the roof when she performed 加大力度 dancing in her elegant purple dress. Wilber Pan who came out to perform 24个比利 right after Joey Yung 容祖儿 kept the atmosphere with several swift dance moves along his fast tempo track.

Backstage Media Interview
阿娇钟欣潼 Gillian Chung and 阿Sa蔡卓妍 Charlene Choi who both won the Most Talented Artiste Award 最佳全能艺人奖 as solo artiste said that they are looking forward in working on their next album as the group TWINS. However, they are currently busy on their respective acting careers.
Raymond Lam 林峰 thanks the media for recognizing him in his music career. He was surprised to win the Media Recommendation Award 传媒推荐大奖 where it was a big recognition for him personally. Raymond also double confirmed on a news which was reported recently stating that he might retire from the entertainment industry in future to take over her family business as he is the only son in his family. However, he reaffirms that the decision won’t be made in recent years as he still want to achieve a few more feat in his career in both acting and singing.
Joey Yung 容祖儿 felt proud and happy for winning the Best Album Award 最佳专辑 with her album titled Moment.
Wilber Pan 潘玮柏 who won the Best Stage Performing Artiste Award 最佳舞台演绎奖 said that he was well known for his dances all these while since his debut 10 years ago and he would love to try out something new, probably some unique stunts.
Michael Wong 光良 expressed his interest in working on a Musical Stage Act 音乐舞台剧 and hope to find experienced talents to work together with him where he wants to start this off from malaysia itself. The multi award winner Michael Wong 光良 also said that hardwork is the main factor in winning awards, of course, a little bit of luck is needed – he added.
Kay Tse 谢安琪 who was one of the biggest winners said she was happy to perform the track I have A Dream which was written by Gary Chaw 曹格 and this is the first time she perform the song in front of Gary. Kay is currently focusing on her acting career where she’s involved in 2 movies – 敦煌传奇 and 末日派对.
Penny Tai 戴佩妮 who won one of the biggest award of the night – 最佳女歌手 Best Female Artiste Award said it was totally an unexpected win and she accepted the award with a big heart and took this as part of her experience being a singer and she’ll continue being true to herself in her singing career.
Gary Chaw 曹格 was extremely contented to have won 3 awards. He expressed that he was once disappointed for not being able to be shortlisted for Best Male Artiste Award and is particularly excited on the win this time. Gary promised that he’ll do a better job and make Malaysians proud.
HuXia 胡夏 of 那些年 You’re the Apple of My Eyes fame said his luck in getting famous provided a him a better opportunity and he’s looking forward in presenting other different genres of song. He states that he’s trying something new in his latest album 傻瓜探戈 which is Tango Dance.
Bibi 周笔畅 who won 4 awards (最受欢迎女歌手5强 Top 5 Most Popular Female Artiste Award, 最佳专辑 Best Album Award, 最佳广州区杰出歌手奖 Outstanding Regional Artiste Award, 最受欢迎20大金曲 20 Hits of the Year )in total expressed her happiness in getting recognition from various party and said that it was a huge encouragement for her.
Derrick Hoh 何维健 who won the Outstanding Regional Artiste Award 地区杰出歌手 (Singapore) for the 2nd time said he’s lucky having to grab the award and he’ll work harder to create more music. Derrick is currently promoting is English single.
Gin Lee 李幸倪 who won the the Outstanding Regional Artiste Award 地区杰出歌手 (Malaysia) and 20 Hits of the Year (20大金曲) said that she felt proud winning the awards though her main focus is currently in Hong Kong music industry. She hoped she’ll be able to win the Most Popular Female Artiste Award in near future and added on saying that she’s now in prep for her concert happening next year.
The whole awards show ended around 12AM midnight with the after party session being held right after the show where all the artiste gathered and took a group photo together with a few VIPs.
