AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Thursday inaugurated the Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein Military Hospital in Ajloun.
The 150-bed hospital serves some 500,000 people in Ajloun and Jerash governorates in the Kingdom's northern region.
His Majesty — accompanied by HRH Princess Haya, wife of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai — toured some departments at the hospital, which is equipped with modern medical devices and technology, according to a Royal Court statement.
The hospital is staffed with qualified administrative, technical, nursing and medical personnel to present the best healthcare services to patients at all departments and clinics.
The facility, which was established upon Royal directives in line with the best international medical standards, is a nine-floor building that includes clinics and medical departments covering all main specialisations offered by the Royal Medical Services (RMS).
The hospital was constructed with funding from the Saudi Fund for Development through its share in the Gulf Cooperation Council grant aimed at helping Jordan implement development projects, the statement added.
King Abdullah, in the presence of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Maj. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, was briefed by RMS Director General Maj. Gen. Muin Habashneh on the technical and medical standards that were followed in establishing the hospital.
Habashneh said the facility was built to meet the needs of Ajloun and Jerash residents, offering the necessary specialisations for the local community.
Hospital Director Brig. Gen. Mifleh Sarhan delivered a briefing on the modern medical equipment and the quality of surgical services presented at the facility.
In the radiology department, the King had a firsthand look at the advanced X-ray devices available.
His Majesty toured the emergency department, and checked on its medical and technical capabilities.
The King also toured the kidney dialysis unit, which has 12 devices, and the operating theatre.
The hospital was established on a 43-dunum plot of land, and is part of a JAF strategic plan, under Royal directives, to provide all governorates with RMS hospitals and medical centres.
In an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Habashneh voiced his appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s contribution through the fund, to finance constructing this hospital.
He noted that the beginning of 2017 will witness the inauguration of the Queen Alia Military Hospital expansion and its affiliated tumour hospital, after increasing its capacity to 150 beds, citing also a plan to establish a military hospital in Maan, some 220km south of Amman.
Hospital visitors, interviewed by Petra, expressed their happiness for the inauguration of the facility, which would save them time and effort, especially since they used to go to Amman’s King Hussein Medical Centre.
