Welcome back to our 12 Days of Holiday Outfits series, a style collab with me, Cyndi from Walking in Grace & Beauty and Kristin from BonBonRose Girls!!
Can you believe we’re already talking about what to wear on Christmas Eve!???
It’s funny, since doing this series, I have started to feel like it’s later in the month than it actually is. It’s crazy how your mind plays tricks on you. I don’t know how people in the magazine industry do it… always working about six months ahead. They probably get up in the morning and want to put on sundresses and tank tops right now.
What does YOUR family do on Christmas Eve? I’m guessing everyone’s traditions vary quite a bit. If you’re the type to stay inside and watch Christmas movies and wrap presents (I’ve spent MANY a Christmas Eve doing exactly that) then you probably will be wearing your favorite yoga pants and slippers.
But if you’re entertaining or you have a party or church service to go to, you may want a few outfit ideas.
And of course, I know not everyone reading celebrates Christmas. It’s such an all-encompassing season for us, it’s hard for me to remember that sometimes. If you have other semi-casual events to attend this time of year, or throughout the winter, you still may enjoy this post.
Pssst. If you’re looking for the Fashion Friday linky, it is right here.
Sorry about that! Got lots of fashiony things going on today! Okay, moving right along.
What To Wear on Christmas Eve
We usually spend Christmas Eve celebrating my middle child’s birthday. OH YES, she’s a lucky one!!! It’s hard for her to share her birthday with the biggest holiday of the year, but she also doesn’t like celebrating early because then she feels like her birthday is kind of anticlimactic. So we try to do both.
In addition to celebrating her birthday, we attend our church’s Christmas Eve service. It’s not a formal church, so we don’t have to dress up, but it’s still fun wear something festive.
Many of the outfits I’ve already shared could certainly work for this . . . a festive sweater and slacks or skinny jeans works for almost every holiday occasion except the most formal. But what about a pretty sweater dress for a Christmas Eve Service? You can dress it up or down depending on the formality of your event. I personally love to see a sweater dress with tights and boots. And you can do the ankle boot thing if you want to give it a more modern look.
This red cowl sweater dress at Athleta is just the ticket. They often have a nice selection of sweater dresses.
Shop this look: Athleta Cowl Sweater Dress in cranberry heather // Madden Girl Ginger Bootie // Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC in “New Grey” // Stella & Dot Bardot Spiral Bangle and Lakin Teardrop Earrings
Not into red? This boatneck cable sweater dress in grey at Ann Taylor is super cute.
If you have an occasion that allows you to dress up more than that, I love this embellished sweater dress. Both are 50% off right now at Ann Taylor with the code MERRY50.
Here’s another nice choice from Kohl’s. You don’t have to wear red or green, you know. This plum is festive in a more subtle way. This comes in women’s and plus sizes, and there’s a similar version in petite.
