Who got a gift card for Christmas? Raise your hand!!

I asked over on my Musings of a Housewife Facebook Page and by the sounds of it, many of you did! The most popular stores seemed to be Target, Amazon, Starbucks and Nordstrom. So I thought it would be fun to do a post on what you could get with those gift cards!

Starbucks is a no brainer. Hello, Peppermint Mocha Latte please? I would be getting one every time I passed a Starbucks until my gift card ran out.

The others present a plethora of buying opportunities! Since I’m on a spending freeze this month, allow me to live vicariously through you!

Here are some items that are popular on my site and a few others that I think you might like.

What to Buy at Nordstrom

What shouldn’t you buy at Nordstrom should really be the question. But here are my top picks based on what has been selling well so far this winter!

This MAC Blot Powder is one of my top recommendations. I love this stuff, and after I posted about it, a bunch of you ordered it. If you didn’t, I can’t recommend this highly enough. It is the only compact I carry in my purse, and I use it whenever I get shiny. It takes away the shine without adding a bunch of cakey powder to my face.

This Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Tote would be a splurge, for sure, but if you have a generous gift card burning a hole in your pocket . . . I can’t imagine a better way to spend it! It comes in quite a few fabulous colors, but oh this palm green . . .

And my Milly Wedge Pumps are still available. They’re still on sale for 25% off, bringing them to $119. This is an extraordinarily comfortable shoe — Cole Haan with Nike Air technology and classic styling that you can wear for years.

And don’t forget about the Toms Desert Bootie. SUCH a stylish shoe and again, so so so comfortable. Be kind to your feet!

And Nordstrom is running some great sales on designer denim right now.

These Joe’s Stretch Skinny Jeans are 40% off, bringing them down to $94.

These Paige ‘Verdugo’ Skinny Ponte Ankle Pants are gorgeous and 40% off. I love my ponte knit pants, although mine are from Banana Republic.

For those asking for some items at a lower price point, I have heard great things about these Vigoss Jeans, and they are now on sale for $35!!!! Those would look AMAZING with the Toms Desert Booties . . . just sayin’.

The Halogen Raglan Seam Dolman Sleeve Sweater is on sale for $69. I love mine, it is great with leggings or jeans. It does run rather large, so you might want to size down, especially if you plan to wear it with jeans rather than leggings. It is sooo soft and luxurious.

And my Rubbish Tunic Sweatshirt is now only $29!!!!!!! This is seriously the most comfortable article of clothing I have ever owned. I am not kidding. If it wasn’t my style, although it is, it’s adorable, but I would buy it just to sleep in. If I wasn’t on a spending freeze, I would DEFINITELY be buying it in another color. Loving this Urban Gray. I have it in a medium. It runs pretty true to size (it’s supposed to be big).

This Corso Como Stirrup Boot is a classic, and at $149 is a pretty good price for a leather boot, and it gets 4 stars with 129 reviews!! I am in love with the Luggage color because it would go with black and brown!

And speaking of that luggage color, get ready to drool . . .

I almost didn’t post this Rebecca Minkoff Cupid Satchel because I know it would be SUCH a splurge, but again, if you have a generous gift card . . . even if it just covers HALF the price of this bag, you might be able to justify it. This is the kind of bag you could carry for YEARS. I have it in a green pebbled leather (you may recall), and I did NOT pay that for it, I got it on a fabulous clearance sale on Zappo’s. But I have loved carrying it and can’t wait to bring it back out this spring. This one in the smooth almond leather is absolutely droolworthy. I just thought I’d throw it out there in case you have a generous benefactor waiting to finance your handbag collection. Ha!

Finally, since most of us don’t have $400 to throw at a handbag, this Avis Satchel by Big Buddha is super cute. The taupe is a great neutral that would go with everything, or it also comes in black. It’s on sale for $60.

What to Buy at Amazon

The Must-Have Hue Leggings are available on Amazon for $36!!! These are the ones I’ve been wearing lately, and they are worth every penny.

And don’t forget about the Doublju Knit Tunic with Unbalanced Hem Line that Grace showed in her How to Wear Leggings post.

The Yoga Mat Flip Flops that I show in my What to Wear to Disney post always get purchased a few times a month from my site. These are so comfy and cute. Did I mention comfy??

These Crocs Kadee Ballet Flats are still one of my faves. They’re super cute and comfy. Do I sense a theme here?

Another comfy ballet flat that gets great reviews is this Dr. Scholls Joliet Ballet Flat for $50.

In the market for a new handbag? This Nine West Double Vision Large Shopper Shoulder Bag is a popular one, and affordable at $59. It’s gorgeous in red, and it also comes in black and cognac.

Moving on . . . here are some suggestions for what to buy with your Target gift card.

What to Buy at Target

I still stand by my Sonia Kashuk Priming Serum. Read my review.

These Mossimo Vanessa Scrunch Ballet Flats with Sparkle are super cute.

I am absolutely obsessed with all things Orla Kiely so I was thrilled when she partnered with Target. I love this Belkin Orla Kiely iPad case. I have a similar one for my iPad Mini.

And I just picked up one of her makeup bags.

Target is running a great sale on activewear right now, right in time for your healthy New Year’s resolutions!

And of course there is no END to the cute accessories you could buy for your home. Plus holiday products are on clearance. My best advice is to go to your favorite Target store and look around! They have a lot more in store than online anyway.

No one mentioned Lands’ End, but right now they are having a huge sale on their outerwear — up to 50% on select Outerwear. Plus get free shipping on all orders over $50. Ends 1/5/14!!! This is a great time to stock up for next winter if you have kids.

Other great sales going on . . .

LOFT has markdowns up to 60% right now.

Athleta has 20% off sale items through 1/5 with code SALE20.

Gap has 40% off with code GAPNEW thru 1/4.

So . . . what are you going to buy with your gift cards??? DISH!!!
