The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI), Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) has become the knowledge partner of the Department of Medium and Small Scale Enterprises and Textile (MSSET), Govt of West Bengal to help the government develop entrepreneurial culture here.

IIM-C has been approached by MSSET, Govt of West Bengal, to help the government in developing entrepreneurial culture in West Bengal.

After two rounds of meetings, it was decided that IIM-C and TiE, Kolkata Chapter, would be knowledge partners of the state government. IIM-C will be pleased to support this initiative of the government in designing a programme to develop entrepreneurship in the state.

“It was agreed that all the District Industrial Centres (DICs) would be involved in this programme. And in-principle agreement to this effect was signed between three parties – IIM Calcutta, MSSET (Govt. of West Bengal) and the TiE – in the presence of the chief minister and other West Bengal cabinet ministers. MSSET will bear all expenses in connection with the programme,” said Ashok Banerjee, Dean of New Initiatives and External Relations.

The year-long training programme would involve capacity building of people in DICs and training of a select group of prospective entrepreneurs who qualify in the preliminary rounds. However, the detailed training programme will be drawn after a thorough deliberation with MSSET and TiE. The CEI has also conducted two panel discussions on ‘Social Entrepreneurship’ in the conclave on September 19.

Two of IIM-C’s incubates (Doctors for you and Onergy) participated in the discussions.

The discussions were moderated by Professor Banerjee and Chandradeep Mitra, adviser, Incubation Unit, IIM Calcutta.

According to Professor Banerjee, “IIM Calcutta is looking forward to help MSSET design a programme to identify entrepreneurial talent in Bengal. IIM Calcutta is pleased to be associated with this initiative.”

CEI is one of the centres of excellence established by IIM-C to achieve greater understanding of an effective mechanism for promotion of professional management practices in Indian organisations as well as to stimulate the development of these organisations for societal benefit.

CEI’s vision is to be acknowledged as a programme of international renown, where students, faculty, alumni, industry and policy makers collaborate, learn and innovate. The team comprises faculty from different functional areas and disciplines.
