I've noticed a lot of "Live the 4-Hour Workweek" and "Digital Lifestyle" ads popping up in my facebook feed lately and decided to click some of them to see what they were. Multi Level Marketing, all of them. First it started with guys from the EmpowerNetwork.com showing you their "Viral Blogging System" and now there is the Six Figure Mentors program selling you "High Ticket Products."
I wasn't going to write anything about it but I realized how many people who want to travel and start a location independent business may get tricked into buying into a MLM scheme like Six Figure Mentors or Empower Network.
What is MLM?
multi level marketing
Web definitions
Multi-level marketing is a marketing strategy in which the sales force is compensated not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of the other salespeople that they recruit.
Is the 4-hour workweek a scam?
This is the tricky part. Yes, it is possible to live the 4-hour workweek, live a digital lifestyle and work from home, or wherever in the world you choose. The problem however, is MLM companies are starting to take advantage of the digital nomad scene by selling you the dream.
"Working" from Thailand living the Digital Lifestyle
What really works?
Yes I am living the digital lifestyle, No I did not make it here selling "high ticket product"or "viral blogging systems." I use and recomend Blogger.com which is a free Blogging System made by Google.
I also make money selling Books on Amazon, and recommend "Make a Killing on Kindle" as a great $6 book that teaches you how to make your kindle book stand out and sell well.
However I make the majority of my income through eCommerce and Dropshipping which is why I recommend the things I do on my Recommended Resources page as they actually worked for me and have honestly given me the lifestyle I have now.

Wrapping it up:
I think it's perfectly okay to use affiliate links when recommending products that actually work, I just think it's shady to try to sell people on the dream of living the 4-hour workweek by recommending MLM schemes such as anything from the Empower Network or Six Figure Mentors.
If you are ever unsure if something is a scam, feel free to message me on facebook or leave a comment here to ask, I would love for all of my friends, family and readers to be able to make money online and be able to come travel with me, scuba dive, and have fun. I just want everyone to know the right path isn't always the one that advertises on facebook and has fancy sales videos.
Warm Regards,
Johnny
