I’m a little late to the kombucha party, I know. I tried it a few years back and I liked it. Then the next time I tried it (different brand) it totally blew. Finally, I stumbled onto Wild Tea Kombucha, a local brand that uses small batch methods to make a raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized and bottled product without any added carbonation. I loved the taste (they mix with fresh pressed juices!), but I wanted to know, is kombucha legit? So I quizzed the staff at Wild Tea about kombucha’s health claims (see below). Want to sample this gut-healing tonic for yourself? Read on for a fabulous kombucha gift basket and a six-pack of beer!

There’s loads of tasty flavours to try.

Q: What is kombucha?

A: Kombucha is a naturally energizing, lightly effervescent fermented tea with many gut loving benefits. Drink it anytime of day, and especially when you need a little pick-me up, after a late-night, or after a large meal. Kombucha has probiotics and healthy digestive enzymes contributing to good gut health.

Q: Why is kombucha good for you?

A: It has probiotics and healthy digestive enzymes contributing to good gut health. Gut health is a very good indicator of overall health. Kombucha is naturally detoxifying and naturally energizing because it’s rich in B vitamins. It’s also anti-inflammatory and can help with joint stiffness and soreness. Emily, our founder, was on the 2014 Olympic Team in Bobsleigh. She incorporated kombucha into her diet when she was training and fell in love with its benefits.

Q: Do you need to cut it with water at first?

A: Kombucha is naturally detoxifying, so you want to ease into it. Try mixing about a ¼ of kombucha into your water bottle. Someone who’s already incorporating fermented foods into their diet will be just fine.

Q: How much should one drink?

A: A cup a day or as your body asks for it.

Beer and kombucha, who knew?

Kombucha Cocktails

Wild Tea Kombucha and Wild Rose Brewery have paired up to launch a limited edition “Blushing Brew” on February 8, 2017. But I don’t drink beer, so who cares? (For those who do, the blend is a combination of hibiscus, rose petal and juniper berry kombucha with Cowbell Sour.) Fortunately the folks at Wild Tea gave me some cocktail ideas I could work with. I already mixed their pineapple mojito flavour with prosecco and it was waaaay tastier than mixing bubbles with OJ. If you’re keen to detox before you retox, check out these cocktail recipes.
