We are expanding our in-house Java capability this year in Bet Tribe, and we are looking to hire top quality, enthusiastic engineers from relevant backgrounds to work in our lean squads.

Join one of the most exciting tech teams in Leeds as a Software Engineer working with the latest front and backend technologies on the Skybet.com sports betting platform.

No previous experience in sports betting? No problem - we have many experts to learn from, and the technical excellence you'll bring is what we value. Salary and benefits packages reflect the high standard in our tech teams, with excellent training and development opportunities for all engineers.

You will be self-motivated and willing to contribute to design at all levels, listening and learning from the talented people around you. We believe we have a strong culture and we want you to be a part of it.

Reporting to the Lead Software Engineer, you will:

Contribute enthusiastically to our continuous improvement of coding practices, application quality, and agile processes

Deliver first-class products, which are secure, well tested, performant, and help provide an engaging customer experience

Play a proactive part in owning the technical systems your team works with; taking responsibility for monitoring, measuring performance and addressing technical issues when required, not just in office hours (on-call allowance with this role)

How we work:

A number of positions are available in the Bet Tribe, open to candidates from a range of experience or seniority levels. Our guidelines are as follows:

We are not building a monolithic Enterprise Java app - think micro-services and a lean approach with quick running tests and deployment - think AWS Lambda, not IBM WebSphere. This should be something you're passionate about too

You will need to demonstrate good levels of skill in Java 8, and be comfortable with techniques such as message queues and event sourcing, and know what makes a good RESTful API

Data features heavily and you should appreciate there are many storage patterns, knowing the strengths and weaknesses when compared to traditional relational databases

You will be happy to pick up code in other languages, especially those in the open source web development arena; Node.js and React for example

We expect candidates to be comfortable working in a Linux environment

We value previous experience developing for high-demand & high-availability environments

Our engineers work closely with colleagues in all positions, so a good level of interpersonal skill is important to us

As a valued employee, you will receive free Sky + HD and Broadband, as much free Yorkshire tea as you can drink (we are in God's country after all), or the stronger stuff if you're more of a coffee connoisseur. A digital private healthcare scheme along with Herman Miller chairs to ensure your derriere is as comfortable as possible whilst you're innovating and a pension scheme that will send you jet setting off into retirement. All this in a flexible working environment with some of the best minds in the industry help make Sky Betting and Gaming a really great place to work (if we don't say so ourselves). So come join us, one sugar or two?
