The person filling this position will perform the following duties:
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and conducting research projects and related activities in support of various research grants and programs in the Reproductive Physiology Group in the Department of Animal Sciences
- Provide training of and assistance to graduate students and other personnel with various histological methodologies (e.g. tissue processing, tissue cutting, histological staining, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization and bioassays (e.g., tissue culture, in vitro embryos production, hormone and metabolite assays, ELISA, radioimmunoassays, and cell proliferation and migration assays)
- Oversee all aspects of projects that include tissue processing, histology and related techniques
- Develop, update, optimize, and implement, new research methods related to histology and biological assays
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory group budget
- Oversee and maintain equipment
- Oversee storage and archiving of tissue and other samples
- Assist with grant preparation, data analysis and publishing data (abstracts, journal articles, book chapters, etc.) from research projects
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students and other personnel as needed
- Assist, as needed or directed, in other Reproductive Physiology Group laboratory areas and laboratory activities (e.g. molecular biology, image analysis and animal coordination) to enable the timely completion of assays and sample collection/processing, storage, and preparation
- Other responsibilities as they arise in the areas of research, teaching and service and are assigned to this positionMinimum Qualifications:- M.S. in Biological Sciences or related area
- Minimum of 2 years experience working in a laboratory setting
- Evidence of laboratory experience with performing experiments utilizing histology (tissue processing, sectioning and staining), biological assays, animal models, data collection, and laboratory analyses
- General knowledge of computers and computer software including word processing, data management, spreadsheets, and presentation programs
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to organizePreferred Qualifications:- M.S. degree/research experience with a focus on Reproductive Physiology
- Successful publication history
- Demonstrated abilities and expertise with research related to reproductive physiology, endocrinology, nutrition, biomedicine or related areas
- Experience with histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, microscopy, image analysis, molecular biology techniques, statistical analysis, and data presentation
- Experience training students and laboratory personnel
- Experience in laboratory management
