An opportunity for a Solution Architect exists to join Thales Air Operations business in support of the development of complex software intensive systems and reusable products.

The Solution Architect will work with internal and external customers to elicit needs and derive stable technical requirements. The Solution Architect will have the opportunity to carry out requirements analysis and architecture modelling activities within a market leader in design & development of high-technology air information systems.

Air Operations is responsible for developing Command and Control Information Systems - it has a mission to improve effectiveness in every part of the chain from Commander through to Cockpit. Its core capabilities include Airbase Operation tools (platform mission planning, airbase automation and information management), ground based tactical data link management systems and deployable Air Traffic Control and Air Command and Control systems. Principal Accountabilities
Generation of Enterprise Architectures and Models in the context of operational environments, organisational structures and Defence Lines of Development (DLODs)
Ownership of Requirements engineering with particular emphasis on requirements elicitation gathered to understand and interpret a wide range of Customer requirements
Maintenance of a clear understanding of the user need and translating this into a precise and coherent requirements baseline and system architectural design
Provision of technical guidance and an operational perspective to external communities and internal engineering teams
Acting as technical expert and reviewer where required at major Programme Reviews
Providing Model Driven Engineering (MDE) support, integrating various disciplines and specialist engineering as required to meet the functional and non-functional requirements
Maintaining knowledge of relevant domain doctrine and associated standards
Dissemination of knowledge across a wide range of external and internal stakeholders
Promoting positive behaviours and ensuring the implementation of Company best practices

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Educated to Degree level, with Membership of appropriate professional institution (IET, INCOSE); Chartered Engineer/INCOSE CSEP preferred;
Detailed understanding of the complete Engineering life cycle
Ability to communicate with and mentor Stakeholders at all levels
Practical application of Enterprise Architecting (eg using MoDAF/DoDAF)
Practical application of Scenario based modelling for Software-intensive Systems development (eg using Rhapsody/UML)
Experience of dealing with Customers, Partners and/or Suppliers in the development of complex systems
Capable of demonstrating understanding of design and acceptance issues relating to Complex Systems or System of Systems
Understanding of speciality engineering and how this impacts on Systems Engineering (ie Safety, Human Factors, ILS, Security)
Mission Systems, Air Command & Control, ATC Radars and/or Tactical data link domain expertise desired
