Responsibilities Medicines Development (MD) IT serves as a strategic function within Medicines Development Unit (MDU) enabling improvements in Research & Development through leveraging information and technology solutions. The MD IT teams define and influence information and business strategies, designs and develop solutions to achieve the strategic outcomes through Next Generation Development (NGD).
The position is responsible for the IT Release Management Process which includes, scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases across 10+ environment stacks spanning 80+ servers that cover multiple platforms. The primary objective is to ensure that the integrity of the live environment is protected and that the correct components are released. This role will partner with the Strategic Platform teams during the initial definition, development, support, and continuous improvement of the Strategic Platforms.
This role reports directly to the Manager of Platform Services within the MD IT Next Generation Information Foundation organization.
Technical Deliverables:
* Define, implement and manage the release strategy for the progression of code through the environment stacks
* Implement strategy, governance and use of DevOps tooling to optimize the development lifecycle and releases
* Implement new processes to take advantage of DevOps tooling to optimize the resiliency, speed and performance of releases and solutions.
* Manage risks and resolve issues that affect scope, schedule or releases
* Steward patches/upgrades that come from within MD IT and the enterprise to schedule/scope releases to align with patches for least risk and impact
* Communicate patch/upgrades benefits and risks to all affected parties such that benefits can be included in the development lifecycle and risks can be identified early
* Implement and manage a CSI registry for Release Management
* Understand and consult regarding conflicting changes/releases across application teams for new features between releases that are being developed
* Understand the technology landscape and impacts releases will have to the technology used by infrastructure, middleware and other platforms or applications
* Manage the impact of incidents and problem resolution with the impact on the release schedule across environments
* Conduct release readiness reviews, checklists, deployment plans and ensure cross-team alignment
* Produce run books, implementation plans, and DevOps suites
* Ensure alignment with updates to security registries
* Maintains repositories, registries, CMDB and processes associated with established ITIL procedures and governance
* Provide thought leadership and research on areas of improvement, risk, or the industry landscape to optimize release management and DevOps to contribute to the CSI registry
* Implement and include a percentage of CSI registry items as part of a release or a sub-release
* Develop reporting and dashboards for use on communication on progress to leadership and across teams
* Vendor management for service management supplier
* Ability to orchestrate requests from many IT partners to facilitate testing and development for multiple concurrent parallel efforts.
* Align with the direction of the architecture and strategy of NGD as it impacts the progress for releases and DevOps
* Coordinate with the Project Manager of projects to align on technical impact of releases and establish communication resource needs for resources across the enterprise
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree
* Minimum 5+ years in software development experience
* Minimum 2+ years of release management experience

Additional Skills/Preferences
* Experience in release engineering and management both in automating and in monitoring builds, and in software configuration management.
* Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle
* Has knowledge and experience in DevOps software development method
* Previous project management experience, (Solid understanding of project management principles preferred)
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
* Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills
* Demonstrated ability to understand and follow quality standards
* ITIL®Foundations Certified
* ITIL®Intermediate Service Transition Certified (preferred)
