JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs such duties as required in the servicing of oil and gas wells and the maintenance and repair of units and tools.  Having satisfactorily completed all the training requirements for Assistant Operator/ Helper, the Operator continues broadening of experience on well site operations and primary tool maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Operates, under normal conditions, the winch unit for running in and out of the hole; "zeros" tools and monitors tension meter, cable speed, depth and spooling of cable; understands depth control and weight indicator systems; uses all winch cable safety controls.

2.     Prepares well for service operation, aligns logging unit, installs sheave wheel, threads cable, and connects multiple tools as required.

3.     Selects, loads, and unloads required tools and corresponding surface instrumentation for the job.

4.     Assists the Engineer in maintenance checks of tools and assigned equipment.

5.     Inspects, maintains and repairs tools, service units, and associated equipment according to the TOPS program.

6.     Assists in servicing, maintaining, marking, and changing cables.

7.     Builds bridles and heads, and rope sockets.

8.     Assesses the level and nature of malfunctions and potential malfunctions and performs such remedial maintenance as is within the scope of an Operator's skills and training.

9.     Identifies the surface instrumentation, tools, and associated equipment required to run each service in the district.

10.  Observes safe working practices, rules and regulations, wears all safety equipment as required, and corrects and reports hazards immediately.

11.  Works well with other employees to ensure the smooth operation of the district.

12.  Maintains tools, shop, and equipment in good condition and keeps shop and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

13.  Safely drives and operates any transport vehicle and logging truck in the district.

14.  Learns proper assembly, disassembly, installation and maintenance of pressure control equipment, and attains appropriate Pressure Control Certificate (type I or II).

15.  Studies the assigned learning material and tasks to progress to the level of a Senior Operator.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

2.     Attends and participates in safety meetings as required.

3.     Keeps and maintains time sheets, DOT logs, and dangerous goods forms current and accurate

4.     Calibrates tools as required.

POSITION SPECIFIC DETAILS

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education:

1.     High school/Technical education or equivalent oilfield experience

2.     Evaluation of at least "Satisfactory" as an Assistant Operator/ Helper.

Commercial driver's license preferably for Heavy Duty Vehicles.

Experience:

1.     Minimum of one year as an Assistant Operator/Helper

2.     Experience in accurately meeting predetermined specifications.

3.     Offshore experience highly desirable

Initiative:

Presents attitude and appearance in shop and field such as to enhance the Company's image and promote client relations.

Provides assistance and guidance to Trainee and Assistant Operators.

Takes instruction in all aspects of the work for which training has been given.

Gives instructions as required.

Reports all malfunctions or suspected areas of trouble to the appropriate shop personnel and keeps the Engineer in Charge informed at all times.

Assesses when a malfunction or potential malfunction needs to be reported to the appropriate shop personnel or Engineer in Charge, as being outside the scope of an Operator's skills and training.

Participates in problem solving at the well site and in the workshop.

Independently pursues opportunities to observe maintenance functions and to practice maintenance skills.

SUPERVISION:

The Operator reports to the Engineer at the well site and the Foreman in the workshop.
