Position Summary:

Assists the CMO with the development and implementation of health care policy and standards of CARE AS related to midwifery.

providers leadership, direction & oversight in maintaining compliance within the scope specified by the Ohio state board of nursing & the acnm scope of practice statement.

provides strategic leadership and oversight for the midwifery program. Leads & promotes collaborative relationship with certified nurse midwives (CNM), institutional leaders and departments to assure the advancement of organizational goals, program and projects.

directs program activities to include the performance and oversight of midwife deliveries and care.

Serves as Certified Nurse Midwife.

Perform all duties of a Certified Nurse Midwife as outlined in CNM job description.

Leads the recruitment, retention, clinical practice, orientation, competency validation and professional development of the CNM's within the Midwifery Practice. Direct and manage CNM's.

Serves as an expert resource in the utilization of CNM's within the specialty-specific focus area of care delivery.

Identifies new and existing best practice initiatives, collaborates in the determination of competency metrics, collaborates in assessing financial productivity and participates in clinical outcome data analysis.

Oversees midwifery quality improvement initiatives and promotes the scope, quality, and quantity of CNM services. assures adherence to quality and productivity standards.

oversees and routinely coordinates the updating of Midwifery policies and procedures, chart review, prescriptive review and other clinical quality activities. in coordination with the VP of Performance Improvement.

Assure quality of medical care; assist with quality assurance and utilization reviews.

Assists with the development and implementation of new medical programming and assures integration with midwifery and other specialty areas.

Serves as a resource for appropriate CNM's billing. Assists in identifying benchmarks to evaluate billable and non-billable services provided. Responsible for the development and administration of the Midwifery budget.

Assists in establishing and maintaining hospital relationships; serve as a liaison between Neighborhood Family Practice (NFP) providers and hospitals and hospital Midwifery departments. Develop and nurture relationships with hospitalists, OB administrators and physicians and other specialists and sub-specialists.

Manages the schedule, staffing plan and coverage of CNM's. Identifies professional development needs of the midwifery staff and maintains a current understanding of national and market trends within the profession.

Develop and implement midwifery productivity, quality and customer service standards. Monitor performance, resolve problems and identify opportunities for system improvements.

Leads midwifery meetings; co-lead as needed provider meetings, approves/schedules midwifery PTO, plan and execute provider peer review.

Assure compliance with regulations and credentialing, including CLIA, Joint Commission, HRSA and other regulatory agencies. Assure quality of care by developing and interpreting NFP standards of care; assure compliance with State Board of Nursing and CNM Practice requirements and other governing agency regulations.

Demonstrates excellence in written and verbal communication, public speaking, presentation skills, critical thinking and decision making skills. demonstrates ability to facilitate group processes and achieve agreement and consensus. ability to foster a cooperative work environment and view success in relationship to group success.

Optimize the utilization of electronic medical records.

Represent midwifery Department on various organization-wide committees.

Represent NFP to a broad spectrum of community and professional organizations. Assist in assessing community needs and impact of external environment.

Qualifications:

Must have and maintain a current Certified Nurse-Midwife and Certificate to Prescribe License from the State of Ohio.

Masters of Science in Nursing required.

Must have and maintain a current Controlled Substances Registration Certificate from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Board certification as Certified Nurse-Midwife from AMCB or other certifying Board required.

Minimum 3-5 years of clinical practice in Midwifery.

Maintain enrollment in American College of Nurse Midwifery Continuing Competency Assessment program.

Meet board and state requirements for continuing professional education.

Demonstrated knowledge of community health.

Work environment is stressful at times.

Walking, sitting and/or standing for long periods. Some bending and stretching required.

Frequent evening, night and weekend work. On-call for pregnant patients in rotation with other CNMs. Involves frequent contact with staff and patients.
