The ideal candidate will have worked in a small – medium size company. Custom manufacturing equipment, high mix, low volume experience is crucial. Experience implementing all aspects of ISO systems. Ideally 140001.
This position will have a wide range of responsibilities in two main areas. This person will fulfill the role of the Company’s quality expert, managing the ISO9001/14001 system and enhancing a culture of quality throughout the business. In addition, the role includes implementing best practices within the manufacturing area including investigating new technologies to ensure unparalleled product quality. This is a very hands-on role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Quality & Environmental Systems
Oversee and actively manage and improve the ISO9000/14000 compliant environmental & quality management system
Ensure internal audits are thorough and carried out in a timely fashion
Improve quality awareness throughout the business including providing training
Respond to internal and external non-conformances by leading root cause investigations and closure
Advocate as the “voice of the customer” demanding the highest quality expectations from the organization
Develop a set of quality metrics and actively work to improve upon them
When required, provide technical support to Purchasing or Engineering in the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, items, or equipment
Fosters a culture of interest, curiosity, and learning within the organization
Manufacturing
Work with production personnel to identify best manufacturing practices and implement them across all workers including encouraging a safety-first culture
Support production in the areas of technical problem solving and the introduction of new process and equipment
Lead continuous improvement initiatives throughout manufacturing
Identify and implement benefits to capacity or cost through process, equipment, and tooling improvements
Ensure production team is assembling the product as designed
Implement and maintain a strong preventative maintenance program including spare parts inventory
Manage capital projects in manufacturing
This position requires a hands-on approach
Employment Requirements:
Bachelor degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial)
3-7 years’ experience managing a certified quality management system including previous audit experience
Proven track record of driving continuous quality, cost, and productivity improvements in a manufacturing environment including experience leading problem solving processes
Exceptional mechanical aptitude
Formal training in Lean or Six Sigma methodologies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in MS Office applications
Ability to read technical drawings
Experience with ERP/MRP systems an asset
May require occasional travel to suppliers and or customers, within Canada and the US
