General Summary

Responsible for meeting department objectives; manages the sales effort for Sysco St. Louis Territory Sales; provides management of the regional sales staff assigned; performs related duties.

Responsibilities:

Operation Management:

*
Develops and promotes department's goals and objectives through the management of planning and supervising activities.
*
Plans and develops a departmental budget and evaluates department operations in terms of fiscal management to ensure fiscal responsibility in the department's operation.
*
Develops and maintains department's inter-face capabilities with other functions and departments in an effort to enhance the department's overall organizational efficiency.
*
Analyzes, identifies, and proposes action to the solution of problems with the operation of the department in an effort to increase the effectiveness of operations.
*
Serves as department spokesman in cases of inquiry, feedback, or requests for special information in order to facilitate the accurate and precise flow of information.
*
Provides supervision of subordinates in order to maintain departmental efficiency.
Regional Sales Management:

*
Develops and implements specific plans and programs, on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, which meet objectives in sales and gross profit for assigned region through District Sales Managers.
*
Councils and directs, through planned meetings and daily contacts, District Sales Managers and staff on sales plans, programs, and goals for assigned districts in an effort to enhance the efficiency of individual employees and the department.
*
Supervises the collection, maintenance, and review of sales and profit data from assigned region for the purpose of producing accurate and precise information on which planning activities are based.
*
Monitors client satisfaction and takes corrective action, as needed, in an effort to ensure account retention and customer satisfaction.
*
Assures, through the performance of evaluation and management activities, that each district in assigned region is sufficiently account penetrated in an effort to meet all established sales and profit objectives set for the region.
*
Reviews, on a weekly basis, sales and profit data to ensure that each district sales manager is meeting the established objectives for their district and to keep informed of competitive conditions; takes corrective action as needed.
*
Prepares project lists, work plans, and summary reports for assigned region, as required, to provide management with accurate and precise information concerning the functioning of the regional sales department.
*
Plans and conducts general sales meetings to enhance the development of sales staff; performs other duties as assigned.
Personnel Management:

*
Conducts need assessments, as needed, to determine training and development needs of staff; provides appropriate training and development to staff as needed.
*
Assists in personnel recruitment and selection as required and assists in the orientation of new employees to increase job survival rates and reduce employee turnover.
*
Conducts formal employee performance evaluations through utilization of formal performance management system, on a quarterly basis, for the purpose of relating expectations to the sales staff and providing evaluation documentation.
*
Monitors and provides feedback, continuously, on the performance of subordinates through monitoring accounts and reports in an effort to relate expectations to the staff and identify poor performance levels.
*
Reviews performance management evaluation system through goal setting for all regional Marketing Associates, on a quarterly basis, to ensure the quality and fairness of the evaluation.
*
Completes personnel records and forms as required; assists in human resource actions as requested; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* Bachelor degree in business/marketing or hospitality industry.
* Minimum 7 years progressively responsible sales experience.
* 5 years of supervisory experience.
* Considerable knowledge of salesmanship techniques; marketing principles and product lines sold by SYSCO; management principles including developing objectives, projecting and managing under a budget, evaluating department operations, and supervising and motivating employees; necessary inter-department communications related to certain sales, credit, and customer service activities; SYSCO credit terms and general finance terminology/concepts; book-keeping activities.
* A demonstrated ability to plan and organize your own and your staff's work activities; analyze and disseminate numerical data; manage work time efficiently; follow procedures and policies; perform moderate mathematical calculations; identify and solve problems; write clearly and concisely.
* Must be able to handle the stresses and pressures associated with high volume, deadline-oriented work atmosphere.
* Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
* Must be able to consistently stand, walk, bend, kneel and stoop as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
* Incumbent must possess a valid State drivers license, a clean driving record and have adequate liability insurance as determined by SYSCO.
* Incumbent must provide his/her own transportation for use in sales activities.
