Overview:

Sysco is the global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other customers who prepare meals away from home. Responsibilities:

The Counsel-Litigation will be responsible for providing legal counsel and operational risk assessment to Sysco Corporation and its operating companies. This requires 3-5 years litigation experience, including general commercial litigation and hands-on litigation experience (e.g., trial, arbitration, mediation, discovery-related activities). Experience with products liability, transportation law and/or debtor/creditor law preferred. He/she will interact with outside counsel, as well as a variety of business professionals, so it is critical that this hire possess sound judgment, maturity, and the ability to quickly gain the confidence of others. This role requires a proactive, efficient approach and one must be able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Specific Responsibilities:

* Provide analysis and advice regarding litigation-related legal risks, trends, and opportunities to reduce the company's risk exposure
* Seek out and propose appropriate solutions and resolutions to disputes and litigation
* Provide advice regarding the implications of new laws substantially impacting the Company
* Direct, manage, and develop strategy for litigation in federal and state court
* Manage outside legal counsel and control outside legal costs
* Collaborate and partner effectively with other departments that service the Company’s operating companies
Qualifications:

Other Qualifications and Interpersonal Skills Needed:

* 3-5 years of legal experience
* Legal background gained in a large or mid-sized law firm
* JD from an accredited law school, and member in good standing with a state bar, preferably TX
* Must be flexible and able to have primary responsibility for a large number of projects at the same time, work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage projects in a dynamic environment
* A strong client service focus
* Sound and precise legal drafting, negotiating, and editing skills, with the ability to analyze legal issues, assess potential for risk and assess priorities
* Must be comfortable when dealing with executives, deadlines, busy phones, and constant problem solving
* The ability to communicate clearly and concisely is critical
* Individual must have the ability and willingness to engage proactively with peers who also provide support to the Company’s operations
* Dependability – is consistent, committed, and responsible
* Able to build strong relationships, both internally and externally
* Credibility and trust are crucial - to quickly gain the confidence and respect of others by providing practical, timely, and reliable counsel
* Ability to work independently without constant supervision

Travel: up to 20%, depending on needs/issues.

Compensation: Package includes base salary (based on experience) plus annual target bonus and eligibility for equity participation.
