Markets Operations is made up of 5 functions: 

Business Management and Strategy

Client Lifecycle Management

FXMM and Derivative Operations

Risk Management, Reconciliations and Cash Funding Operations

Securities, Financing and Network Management (SFNM) Operations

 

Role: Balance Sheet Integrity – Associate

 

Balance Sheet Integrity team is responsible for forming a holistic understanding of the balance sheet substantiation that affects the Operations environment. The team provides guidance on balance sheet standards designed to strengthen Operations knowledge and understanding of their sign-offs. Our mission is to improve the quality of balance sheet substantiation across all products of Markets Operations with clear accountability and ownership for accounts in order to protect the organisation.

 

Functional requirements:

 

Provision of central oversight for Operations ‘Balance Sheet Substantiation’ and ‘Balance Sheet Account Ownership’ (“BSSAO”), including related framework development.

Assurance testing and liaison with Operations teams, to ensure ‘Balance Sheet Substantiation’ process complies with the firm’s accounting policy and standards.

Post month-end reviews with Operations to assess remediation plan for control gaps and track issues to resolution.

BSSAO reporting and central facilitation / representation for related ‘Hand-over’ meetings with Finance, and for Operations Management Team.

Identification and timely escalation of potential risk issues in accordance with departmental procedures.

Cross divisional and cross functional liaison, including acting as a point of contact between Operations and Finance.

Periodic review of departmental performance indicators.

Data / activity analysis to determine ownership for disputed accounts.

Regular review and maintenance of department procedure documents.

Value-add contribution to define key objectives and plan execution.

RACA sample testing.

Participation in ad-hoc projects.

Team process deep dives. Challenge status quo to provide productivity gains, enhance controls and processes.

Support management in implementing the group’s strategic vision to achieve future target state.

The successful candidate should have good knowledge of Markets Operations and a strong grasp of the ‘Balance Sheet Substantiation Rules of the Road’ within it. The candidate should be able to operate within all levels of the management structure and therefore be articulate and confident in their approach.

The successful candidate will be degree educated, be able to demonstrate a proven track record in business partnering and have a good understanding of the current regulatory environment. Experience in leading teams will be a plus.

Essential Experience

Experience of Investment Bank Operations processes and controls.

In-depth knowledge of Risks & Control assessment process.

Preparation of management dashboard reports.

Experience in delivering executive presentations.

Awareness of accounting and financial reporting processes.

Working knowledge of General Ledger accounts and Balance Sheet Substantiation principles.

Good knowledge of reconciliation workings and procedure.

Good problem solving and decision making capabilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Intermediate / Advanced).

Good understanding of BSSAO tools & processes.

Supplementary Experience
