The Requirements

We're hiring an experienced Audit Manager to cover Corporate Services, based within Internal Audit. You'll need to have proven knowledge and experience in assessing risk in areas such Security & Resilience, Supply Chain Services, Property, and Design.

Internal Audit is located across the globe with over 600 employees providing executive management with opinions on how their businesses are managing risks. These activities include the management and divestment of non-core assets, and global management of operational, regulatory, credit and market risks. Internal Audits responsibility is to help the Bank return to standalone strength and respond quickly and effectively to challenges.

Purpose of the role:

Provide functional expertise within Internal Audit and to our key stakeholders

Lead or contribute to audits of varying size and complexity across the Bank

Plan and manage audit assignments, with leadership responsibility for colleagues on specific assignments

Build and develop key relationships at senior levels in the organisation

Contribute to development of the audit plan through ongoing business risk assessment

Writing high quality audit reports and assist in identifying solutions for identified control issues

Deliver audit assignments that comply with Internal Audit quality standards and procedures

Provide robust and challenging insights on business risk and control procedures

Key Deliverables:

Plan – Play a key role in delivering a flexible and risk based audit plan that provides independent assurance and opinions with impact

To develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Corporate Services functions to assist the IA Corporate Services Division team in creating and keeping up to date an effective long term audit strategy and audit plan that focuses on the highest risks to delivery of the business strategy and meets all regulatory and legal requirements.

To lead Corporate Services audit assignments and deliver robust conclusions on the adequacy and effectiveness of key controls designed to mitigate key risk identified through audit planning.

To work with all relevant teams within IA, such as Markets, Personal Banking, Business Banking and Technology, to ensure our Corporate Services assurance provision is comprehensively defined and effective in its delivery.

To produce effective entity reports and opinions which ‘do the right thing’ in communicating difficult messages and successfully influence executive management to manage risk prudently within their risk appetite.

To implement actions arising from QA reviews or other internal or external observations on the quality of audit work.

To assist the Audit Director to deliver key Corporate Services initiatives, as directed.

To work closely with IA colleagues to ensure the appropriate coverage is given to Corporate Services in the most effective and efficient way.

Positioning – Act as an influential control partner with business stakeholders

To act and be seen as a key IA representative for stakeholders within Corporate Services.

To produce effective reports which influence executive management to manage risk prudently, within the Bank / Board risk appetite and inform the Audit Committee in the execution of their function.

To help manage IA issue closure with senior stakeholders to ensure issues are resolved in a reasonable timeframe.

To establish and maintain effective ongoing dialogue with internal stakeholders, keeping abreast of strategic direction and the changing risk environment, and of 1st and 2nd line risk and compliance concerns and activities. 

To demonstrate personally credible, detailed technical expertise and to use the results of audit work and continuous monitoring to provide robust and insightful challenge to the business.

To understand the complexity of the Corporate Services environment and to see technical connections from a control perspective.

Price/Productivity – Think commercially and run audit as a business to maximise efficiencies and effectiveness

Assist the Audit Director in leading and managing the Corporate Services team efficiently, ensuring the team delivers the audit plan to budget and on time.

To ensure high productivity levels are maintained in the delivery of audit assurance.

Technical Competence required:

Specific and detailed understanding of Corporate Services within a complex, global and diverse financial services organisation. 

Detailed audit, risk and control knowledge gained through extensive previous audit experience or in a compliance role.

Clear understanding of the existing regulatory environment and forthcoming regulatory developments and the likely impact of regulations and regulatory change on the bank and on audit.

Experience:

Strong Internal Audit or industry experience of Business Continuity, Resilience & Security operational processes, procedures, controls and regulations is a requirement;

Internal Audit or industry experience is desirable in areas such as:

Procurement, Outsourcing and Supplier Management;

Property Management;

Business Design and Architecture; and

Data Governance.

Strong analytical skills;

Experience in managing a team;

Proven ability to work under pressure;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of stakeholder management;

Relevant qualification in in audit, risk, accountancy or finance/banking; and

Flexibility to travel to complete audit assignments, where required. 

Qualifications:

Relevant qualification in audit, risk, accountancy or finance, or extensive Corporate Services management business experience.

The key “qualification” here is the ability to bring detailed, comprehensive technical Risk knowledge and to deploy it effectively.
