3M Company is seeking a Product Strategy and Innovation Architect for the Motor Vehicle Systems and Services Business Unit
Job Summary:
The person hired for the position of Product Strategy and Innovation Architect will primarily be responsible for working interdependently with a team of architects and developers to design and develop general frameworks and features to drive the product development of applications across the DMV, Tolling, Parking and Public Safety suite and to design and implement critical business applications supporting various initiatives within the Motor Vehicle Systems and Services Division of 3M. This includes, but is not limited to, working with a business development team to build strategy and to provide enhancements and new development to an existing suite of applications, while setting standards, best practices, and guidelines within 3M MVSS. This role will be part of the Product Strategy and Innovation Team.
Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Possesses significant knowledge of multi-tier applications, mobile applications and embedded systems
- Provides technical expertise for products and architecture in the request for proposal (RFP) process
- Provides effective communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives and performance
- Creates well designed, reusable objects
- Understands the benefits of the various design methodologies and object oriented environments
- Provide architecture vision, integration and problem solving on an enterprise level - Create design patterns to convey the architecture concepts
- Understands functional design requirements
- Assists in physical and logical database design
- Designs, codes, and tests technical solutions for multi-tier, mobile and embedded systems
- Identifies system deficiencies and recommends solutions
- Creates technical specifications for systems and feature implementation
- Ensures that all development practices are in compliance with employer's best practices, policies and procedures
- Assures the viability, functionality and effectiveness of essential tools
- Understands the necessity of and contributes to establishing and enforcing coding standards
- Creates and performs training sessions for developers
- Proactively seeks opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies in multi-tier, mobile and embedded systems
- Shares acquired skills with team members through formal and informal methods
- Prioritizes multiple tasks effectively
- Communicate effectively with other disciplines including other Architects, Developers, Project Management, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Infrastructure/Communications, Engineers, and Production Support
- Participates regularly in the recruitment of new hires through our interviewing process and involvement in recruiting events
Location: The position of Product Strategy and Innovation Architect will be located in Austin, Texas and relocation benefits are currently not authorized for this position. This position may include up to 10% travel.
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma / GED or higher
- Minimum 7 years experience working in the software industry
- Minimum 3 experience in a software architecture role
- Minimum 5 years combined experience working with C/C++ and/or C#
- Minimum 3 years combined experience in object oriented programming
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher in computer science and/ engineering from an accredited university
- Experience in: mobile platform development, embedded systems development, ASP.NET, SQL, SOA, and web based and/or smart client OLTP design and/or development
- A high degree of understanding of security, scalability, flexibility, maintainability, and reliability
- Expert object oriented development and design experience and abilities
- Experience with the following platforms: Windows O/S, OS X, Linux and mobile platforms including iOS, Android and Windows Phone
- Experience managing and working with distributed team members
- Strong experience with web application development, mobile application development and embedded systems
- Experience with XHTML, JavaScript, AJAX, Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, and TFS Source Control
- Experience with database management systems and technologies
- Experience in Web Services standards and Service Oriented Architecture
- Hands-on experience with object-oriented design and coding
- Experience in user interface design and human factors
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to meet project plan timelines and produce a high quality product
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to take individual initiative and accountability for assignments
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new tools and technologies
